Most people I knew in the military.....and I've know quite a few......were raised in Republican households. I was raised and am still Republican even was while I was in the military. It's a false statement to say that more democrats send their kids off to war. In the past that had been the case.....say over 30 years ago, but since then things have changed.....obviously not the statistics!
A few friends of mine have lost their kids in Iraq in the past few years. Also have lost some very good Army buddies too. ALL of the soldiers, parents, spouses, children, were all Republican.
Instead of deciding its a Democrat/Republican discrepancy, instead look at it was a problem of finding jobs! Places where there are not many entry-level jobs, seem to be the same places where there are more military enlistments. So are impoverished areas. Now whether these people are Dem/Rep/Ind/Green, should not come in to play, because I KNOW in the military it has absolutely NO bearing on ANYTHing!

I got this "idea" from newspapers, commentaries, TV, here in the political answer section and from people writing to my website, telling me that's how it is. It all reads the same.....Democrats have children in military while Republican children sit and watch. I'm sure I'm NOT the only one to read or hear it!

Being a veteran, I would say the largest group would be of Republican nature...most in the military are young and have not established a aliance with any Politcal party...Most only just turned 18 and havent even voted for the first time.
In the military there is no Dems or Republicans...The military is not a Democratic institution. Politcs are not an everyday conversation topic.
All are there to do their job, no matter who gives the order.

I know a lot of people in the military and most of them do not declare themselves Republican or Democrat. A couple of years ago I know that a lot of them favored Reopublican leadership because they thought the Republicans were "taking care" of them. Today, most of my friends are very disappointed with this president and they were happy that the Democrats took over the House and Senate.

Now, I am only talking about 15 people in uniform; this is not a sweeping generalization of the military but I suspect that this attitude is shared by a growing number like my friends. But my point is that most soldiers do not identify themselves as Rublican or Democrat... their association with the political process is not held by party loyalty.

Truthfully I thought it was the other way around. Most people think only Republicans send their kids to the military. A vast majority of Democrats either ran away from military duty or found another way out of it. They tend to think that the only way we will ever be able to have peace in this world is to sit on our hands and talk everything out. Most likely if Clinton had still been in the White House we would have sat still and never gone after the Taliban.

Who believes only democrats? And we have a all volunteer force so no one is sending their kids anywhere. Young adults are making their own decisions and joining on their own. Its a documented fact that the majority of voting military is Republican so don't know where they think otherwise. Perhaps they are thinking of back in the 60;s during the draft. We haven't had a draft since 73.

Not sure where you get your information. I never thought that ONLY dems sent their "kids off to the military." In fact, it is my experience as an army wife, that most of the soldiers that I know, and their families, affiliate themselves with the republican party.

Odd question.

Actually, no one sends their kids off to war. It is the soldier's decision to enlist, not that of his parents. An America where your parents decide your future is an America in which I do not want to live.
