Tell them how much you love the cat! It's really an irrational fear that cats ruin the house, I've been around many cats, declawing is illegal where I live as it is in most of Europe, we have lots and lots of cats, even SoftPaws are hardly sold, and our houses look just fine!
There's a good article on getting a cat to use the scratching post in the source, however I've never had to go through much trouble with it, some cats take a bit of effort to train but mine have always used the post from right in the beginning, never even trying the couch. If yours does need some training the article will help a lot :)

This is rough. The fact that she does not respect you (sneaking out with boys, not coming home) would make me a little bit worried. If shes staying out of trouble at dads house, I would ahve her stay there and maybe request move visitation (rather than just the summer, maybe every other weekend you can drive to pick her up, or on school vacations).... She says that dad got rid of the dog for no good reason, but have you spoken to dad about it? Maybe he DID have a reason. It sounds like maybe you and dad dont talk much (the fighting with meds part) so I would say maybe you two can try to communicate. About the counceling. If you think that shes got a mental disorder then you do need to force her to go get help. She is only 16 (At the same time there are only 2 more years that you have to force her to get help). I dont know how you can force her, but if she DOES have a mental problem then it is not fair that it is causing her to be a troubled teen, getting into trouble and such. At that point I'd almost say that its 'not her fault' (If a mental disorder is influencing her).

Oh my gosh this is so weird i'm in the exact same situation. I'm 20 years old and in a few weeks i will be moving back in with my parents who just happen to hate cats because they dont want there pretty house ruined. I also am dearly attached to my cat who i took care of since she was a kitten, so i know how you feel. The only thing i can tell you since you cant change your parents mind is to do what i'm doing. Give you cat away to someone close to you so you can visit her as much as you can. I know it sux to hear that but thats the best you can do for now. I'm giving my cat to my boyfriend so whenever i go visit him, which is alot, i can see her as much as i want. Don't worry i know it's sad to lose your baby, but it will be okay.

Ok first off Ill give you places where she can be spayed for free or at low cost also there are alternatives to de-clawing a cat like regular nail trims every 3-4 weeks , Scratching posts treated with cat nip , farimone sprays to calm them , There are nail caps that can be glued on to a cats nails so that they cant scratch. I feel for you I have given up many oppurtunitys to live in a nicer place or to room with friends over my cats I just couldnt give them up , So I know how you are feeling. You can email me I would be glad to help you give you pointers to talk about with your parents and etc , Also ask your parents if they would agree to have her if she simply stayed in your room only and did not roam around the house and was spayed and got regular nail trims explain to them how important she is to you and the bond you share with her , Explain that she is like your confidant and you need her to maintain your current mental state because loosing her would be very depressing for you. Please Please Please Email me with any question you have Ill be more than glad to help you in any way I can !!

Is there a relative or friend who can cat-sit until you get your life back on track? I love my pets too and wanted to suggest this as a solution.

I am really sorry. I know the feeling, although I have never had that exact situation happen. Mayb eoy u could hire someone to take care of her? She would still be yours but she just wouldn't stay with you. good luck!

Have her declawed and sprayed and take her to the vet to get her shots and watnot and try and get her trained. Maybe then your parents will relize how much you love her and are willing to care for her. GOOD LUCK!!!
