It's the season following Whitsunday (or, Pentecost). called so because, like Easter, Whit(e) Sunday was another day when catechumens were Baptized...and they wore white.

Whitsun is Old English for "White Sunday". It is the fiftieth day following Easter. In America, this holiday is known as the Pentecost.

In the Book of Acts, Jesus' early followers were filled with the Holy Spirit on this day, and were inspired to go and spread the gospel.
