I like all the previous suggestions. My personal favorite is to plug your nose, close your mouth, and swallow.
To prevent this un-popping problem, try swallowing often, or like many do, chew gum. This will help keep your ears from plugging as it keeps the canals open enough to help with altitude changes.

Open your mouth really wide like you are yawning and breathe in. That usually works unless your ear-pop is really bad.

when that happens to me what i do is i stick the palm of my hand on my ear and rub in a circle and then shake my head like a dog does after he gets out of the water( i know it sounds crazy, but it really works!)
