I'm an Atheist and I don't visit this site much but on Myspace I've seen quite a bit of this. Some Atheists/Pagans don't like each other but I've noticed that most get along fine and actually like each other. Why is this besides...We're Satan's little helpers *wink*?

Because on this site Pagans, Atheists, and Agnostics are pretty much on the same side against those who are condemning us to hell. And because Pagans, Atheists, and Agnostics don't condemn each other to hell.

You don't see many Pagans/Wiccans running around telling people they MUST believe. Personally, I don't care if someone believes in something or not, so long as they aren't harming others. You can believe in a purple leprahcan with a pink hat that's brings you presents on your birthday... Now if you try to use that to justify violence towards others, then I'll have a problem with it. =) But that is the general attitude of all Pagans (with some exceptions of course - we have our Fundies too). We normally don't make an issue out of spiritual beliefs - or lack thereof.

they share similrities, alot of them start off within a major religion, then either question it or rebel against it for what ever reason, hence they seem to share an attitude of not blindly accepting things without some consideration, im not saying that ppl in major religions do, but it takes a certain type of person to 'go against the flow'

and are not constrained by a 'my faith is better than yours' thing that the major religions that have histories together do. theres never been a holy war between agnostics and an atheists.
Pagans,Wiccans generally very nice ppl. too, if a bit too accessorised.

As an Atheist I get along with Agnostics, Pagans, and Wiccans because they don't try to push their beliefs on everyone else or use guilt trips to get their way.

Atheist's respect the beliefs of others so long as thoes others do not try to make the atheist convert to their belief.

Wiccans, and Pagans have no desire to convert others. we will gladly share knowlege if asked. but out eternal salvation is not hinged on how many we convert. we have our own path, and everybody else has their path and we are fine with that.

we can get along because we do not feel the need to assymilate you into our religion before we can be friends.

It is because Pagans and Wiccan religions aren't as evangelical as Christianity or Islam. So pagans and Wiccans aren't demanding that everyone believe the same as them or suffer eternal torment.

In my experience, it's because we all truly respect each other. The Pagans and Wiccans in this don't beleive the non-religious will be burning in hell or anything of the like.

The Pagans and wiccans are also not pushy about their beliefs, and are usually also educated about things.

Because none of us insist that if the others don't follow our beliefs that they're going to hell....

It's a tolerance issue, and when you've got multiple people who like to laugh at being condemned to a place they don't necessarily believe in, it's hard not to get along. (also, it's always good to have others to discuss non-Christian Divinity with, even if that Divinity is Logic or Science.)

none of them have so much self-righteousness as to tell someone else that they are totally wrong in their beliefs, and they accept others as they are. (generally speaking of course)

risingers- if you knew the theology behind witchcraft you may not think that way. as i learned it, it was based on the same sort of principals as psychology--mostly the self-fulfilling profecy & something similar to the ego-id-superego model, as well as dealing with the subconcious. i didn't learn it as casting spells on people, i learned it under the theory that when you cast a spell it engages your "inner child" in order to communicate with your "higher self" about what your concious self wants. it's basically symbolism and affirmations. although there is an aspect of energy manipulation, it doesn't magically transform things.

I guess it's because this group of people are the least judgmental. They don't care what the bible says about many matters, and tend to be open-minded and accepting to others. Thankfully there are people like that, besides all the bigots roaming around.
