I don't really have a sore throat, but a tiny one. And when I look in my throat w/ a flash light, there are some white patches back there but I don't know if they're normal or not. So first question, does anyone know where I can find pictures of a normal throat to compare it to, and if it is strep throat, is there anything I can do for it right now because the health center is closed until tomorrow.

I'm now not sure if one of the patches is white or not, but I'm just afraid of strep because of the last time I had it, I spent the night in the bathroom. Anything I can do to prevent that from happening?

Go get it checked out tomorrow You need a .culture taken , no kidding it's very contagious .With full blown strep , some people get a rash that can turn into scarlet fever . . Others have a sore throat & if not taken care of it can turn in to romatic fever , that can lay you up for months & damage you heart . No matter what if it is strep your in danger & so are your friends that you've been in contact with . My grand son & his friend had it .They both had to get antibiodics . He's 11 & had the sore throut & his little friend 10 , she had the rash .
My husband had it when he was in his teens , he ended up with romatic fever, His legs went week & he couldn't walk for a month or more . A girl I know had it to & had to be in bed for months .
Please get help tomorow . For tonight just gargle with warn salt water & stay away from others . A lot of fluids is importand .
I'll pray for you that you'll be ok & can relax till you can get it tested .

Well, for the first few days of infection, it won't show up in a test. Since you have seen the white patches, it could be that, or another type of infection. It's best to see someone so they can do a culture on it and see. Usually with strep, you will have a very sore throat, headache, fever, chills, sometimes nausea/vomiting. If you catch it early enough, it's not a problem. I would go to the doctor tomorrow and get it checked out. Until then, just make sure you stay away from other people as much as you can and drink plenty of fluids. You can eat yogurt, which tends to help, and try gargeling with salt water.

If it is strep, you will be put on antibiotics. Remember to take them as directed and don't stop taking them just because you feel better!! You need to take the whole course of the drug for it to totally get rid of the infection.

If it isn't strep, then they will do some other tests to rule out things like mono or thrush. Mono is contagious, and isn't just from kissing someone, so if it's that, don't worry. Thrush is an infection caused by a bacteria, the same as strep, but a different bug. It can cause a very sore throat and mouth. Usually with thrush, the patches will start to appear all over your mouth, not just your throat, so watch for that tonight. Yogurt will help that too.

Just try to take it easy until you get checked out. I'm sure things are fine!!!

Gargle very well with Listerine or a solution of 1tsp salt and one cup of warm water about three times a day and see if it clears up on its own. Do this even If you don't have any fever and feel OK and you don't think you were exposed to strep. This might be something minor like even a mild case of tonsillitis. Give yourself a day or two to see if it improves with the gargling. Unless of course you ate crackers or something :) ! Then just rinse drink a glass of water next time when you eat! If the symptoms get worse or there is swelling in the neck or behind the ears or a fever or cold or flu symptoms go to the doctor.

if you have white patches on your throat, that is almost definitely strep. Also, strep usually hurts the most when you swallow. I would suggest eating some ice chips for a while when the pain is the worst to cool down and partially numb your throat.

Head to the nearest ACL and have them do a throat culture. They will be able to tell you whether you have strep or not and will give you antibiotics. Good Luck!

I used to get strep a lot. It is caused by a bacterial infection, so you need amoxicillin. That usually cleared it up for me in a couple days. You can tell you might have strep because your lymph nodes on the sides of your neck begin to swell.
One thing that may help is to gargle with Iodized Salt and really warm water. The iodine in the salt, usually helps to relieve the pain temporarily, although it is important to see a doctor ASAP because strep is very contagiuous.

Classic strep throat signs are those little white spots. Also, known as pus pockets.
Other signs are trouble swallowing, fever....

Not a lot you can do yourself, as you would need antibiotics but strep is very contagious. No sharing of utensils or glasses and wash your hands frequently.

If you have a fever, you should drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.

So happy I had my tonsils out!!

Normal throats don't have pouches of pus. You don't necessarily have to have a sore throat to have strep. Symptoms may be ,but not exculsively sore throat, fever, red ,pusy swollen throat. There are other diagnosis which are possible including mono and viral illness. You need testing to ruleout or find out what illness is causing the symptom.
