A hand-written will, known as a "Holographic Will" is legal in the state of Texas. Normally it is NOT witnessed or notarized. (In some states if a holographic will is witnessed, it is NOT valid!)

Although legal, a holographic will is never recommended since the wording used by the testator may have different meaning under the law than they intended. Holographic wills are also frequently incomplete.

Here's a link that explains a lot about the various types of wills in Texas and how they are handled. http://www.texasprobate.com/articles/willspro.htm

A judge will recognize such as valid, but if anyone questions the validilty of it before final judgement, it can lead to lengthy and costly delays to prove or diprove its validity.
