You should always read the label. You are right. we trust in thse companies to do the right thing. Whether they do the right thing or not is another matter. Think tobaco companies. I think one of the things that keep us somewhat safe is the old mihty dollar. If you sell a substandard product people will eventualy find out. SO, at the begining you may make a lot of money but in the long run you will loose your maoney to the competition. So, it is both the money and the competition that keep us safe.

Ofcourse, if you want to be as safe a possible then you wil have to grow your own produces, animals and what not and make the food yourself. As long as you do it right it is safer than some disgruntle employee. This, however, is to much work so there is a give and take.

I dunno! Why is this in the "singles & dating" section. There are some folk who go undercover to expose the food industry's dark side...but I am not going to mention who...but I know you know who I am talking about.
Growing your own food tastes so much better than buying it, and second best is to shop at farmer's markets. The more local it is, the better chance you have of getting fresh food.
Also, if you cut down on packaged and animal products, you will have a better chance of staying away from some nasty stuff, too.
I have no idea why we are so trusting. Probably because for most people, food poisoning is not common or fatal. I mean, people need ot eat. Heck, people don't need to smoke, but they still do, and that is proven far worse for you than "normal" food consumption.

I know! That reminds me of the peanut butter recall a few weeks ago. It disturbed me to know that rats and birds get into the bins of peanuts. They roast the peanuts at high temperatures so the fecceses and bacteria from the rats and birds burn off. Ewww!!! I hate thinking about what I'm eating.

I came back and read some people's response...did you know the FDA has a limit of how much rat feces can be found in your food? Yea, you could be eating crap everyday and you are trusting it because you think the FDA wouldn't allow that.

Well, in the US there is a government agency that regulates how and where and under what conditions foods are made that are going to be sold for profit. That gives me a little peace. Also, I try to just not think about it. Finally, I ask a blessing on my food.

My sister used to be a vegetarian. She worried alot about artificial colors and preservatives and every kind of animal product. Then it got too hard for her to worry so much about every thing her family put in their mouths. So she told me once, now they eat anything, they just bless it first!

Most of our 'trust' is taught to us by our parents ... and that may be 'right' but it may just as often be 'wrong' ... but I don't think I'd want to live in a world where I had to 'grow' or produce everything I eat ... and I 'trust' the government and the corporations that produce most of the food in the store to want me to 'stay well' because the like getting my 'money' for their products.

not everyone is trusting, I know plenty of health and fitness instructors, dieticians and doctors, and they tell everyone they know how to shop and to shop at whole foods or trader joes and read the labels try as macrobiotic or holistic website.

there are alot many informative websites about the dangers of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners, check out the medical websites or disinfo.com , you can also take a contemporary health class at your local community college and see, many people eat smart and have no trust for the genetically altered and chemical toxin filled food that is mass produced and sold in our markets

Trust is based on past experiences in similar situations with similar common elements, tools, and needs for their use. We apply the same tactics and degree of caution to these similar endeavors. Unfortunately we may not see the hidden dangers that can be inserted into these scenarios until it is too late for some of us, who have not yet become aware of warnings from previous survivors of these subversive intrusions.

We're trusting because we assume govenment programs monitor what is being packaged and sent out. Our trust is ill-placed however, since these same government institutions allow cigarettes to be marketed.

The best you can do is to find as much information on a source as possible. You will never know 100% until you grew it.

Oh how I do agree with your perspective. I cook at home 95% of the time because can control what goes into the food I eat.

What is more disturbing we are not taught how to grow our own food so we are so utterly dependent on the system.

Is this our next terrorist concern?
