My question is directed at those Creationists who take offence to their children being given a scientific education at school.
You claim you are being denied the right to teach your children the 'right' way, and yet at the same time you are denying your own children the right to think freely and make an informed decision.
If you are so convinced that the Bible is the only truth, then surely all the science in the world will not make a difference and your child will be 'saved' by their blind faith in religion.
If its God's plan for your child to have faith, then your child will be saved and a scientific education will not change anything. You might as well give them all the knowledge they deserve and God's plan will play out as its supposed to.

Small But Fierce, I would like to see this proof you speak of. If God exists outside space and time, how can we possibly prove he created anything with our pathetic and apparently 'flawed and false' scientific systems?

I agree with you. Children should be given a scientific education in school and it is up to a parent to enhance their children’s knowledge of spiritual truth, and then the child can either reject truth for a season or come on board in this life.

"Isn't the truth just a matter of opinion?" ...
Not according to Jesus ...
John 18:37 "...To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth."
As far as giving children a "scientific education at school", I assume you are talking about teaching general evolution as "science". Having gone through the public school system and also my children AND being a Christian, I see nothing wrong with teaching the General Evolution Theory at school. Many Christians and non-Christians that do not believe the theory find it entertaining to see at what lengths people will try to legitimize the theory -- now that is faith! Hmm... "the missing link" for example, wouldn't it be better labeled the MANY and various missing links BECAUSE evolution is NOT "science" but just a THEORY (and one full of holes at that).
My only complaint is that schools are teaching evolution as if it were fact when in fact is still a "theory" regardless of what non-Christian scientists, Hollywood & the popular media claim.
No ... I have often used the people that believe in general evolution as an example of GREAT FAITH -- even to the point that it defies logic.
Think about it -- figure it out.

The question in the subject line is not the same as the question in body. In response to the question about truth being opinion, this is a hot question now. It's at the core of the postmodern movement. I believe that some truths can be subjective. I wouldn't say that it's a matter of opinion, but a matter of perspective.
However, some truths (in my opinion) are objective truths. Some people will talk about "your truth" and "my truth," but sometime there can only be one truth. Either I am either taller than 6' or I'm not. There is objective truth here. I can't be taller than 6' AND shorter than 6'.
However, this begs an entirely new question: Can anyone truly know something to be true? For some questions ("Am I taller than 6'") can be fully known, but I don't know that other (the big ones) can be. But that's far too complicated to get into now.

Look, your being very offensive to some people.
Truth is never a matter of opinion. Didn't you learn that in grade school? They taught us in like 2nd grade the difference between fact and opinion.
The Bible is not the only truth, but it is the truth. Some people just don't want their kids being taught some of the things that are taught in those "public" schools. There are some schools that teach kids to be idiots and immoral. Sometimes its not the science people have a problem with, its everything else.
So don't go lump everyone together in one group like that.
And I do believe that God has a plan for us all, but He loved us enough to give us free will. Sometimes we choose not to follow what God has said for us to do and we stray from His plan.
I have often wished that no matter what we do His plan we always follow out, but that would tak eaway our free will. Its very hard sometimes, but His plan has to be followed out by our actions.
Take time to think before you stereotype people from now on.

You said "If you are so convinced that the Bible is the only truth, then surely all the science in the world will not make a difference and your child will be 'saved' by their blind faith in religion."
To whom were you referring? I've been a Christian since 1973. The Bible is true, and historically accurate, proven by facts, whether you think so or not. The ways of science are also true, proven by facts. Even Luke, the apostle was a doctor.....using scientifically proven facts to treat medical conditions.....
You say "God fears me"......think again. I can't see your brain, but by faith I believe you have one. Science proves that all human beings have a brain....even though a lot of us don't use it to the fullest extent of it's capabilities.

Truth is not a matter of opinion. 2 plus 2 equals 4. No question of opinion.
Most creationists I've heard of only want the children in school to be informed that there is the creation option, and that it is respectable. They are not asking schools to stop teaching evolution: if that is what the teachers believe, so be it. But they could be mistaken, couldn't they? It's not quite like 2 plus 2.
The problem is, by state law, it is forbidden to teach creation alongside evolution.

you sound like you are a PK or you have a lot of pressures from your parents. My mom's not like that and she never was. I could think what ever I wanted and I chose Creation just like my mom. Maybe you should bring this discussion up with your parents. I think no child or person should have something crammed down their throats until they gag. I believe each person have the right to be whatever they want however if you never tell the child all the options how will they know? It's not what they say but how they say it. Fact is most people stay the religion they were raised. They stay in their comfort box. Unless they are rebellious of their parents.

This was you point of view which I to some extend share but, this is the wrong place for it. his is place for questions not imflamatory posts.
The truth is the truth no matter what. The truth that a person decides to accept is another matter. You can accept something as thruth whether it is real thruth or not. So, as far as the person is oncern then it is the truth to them. To them only. The real real thruth might be something completely different or they might be correct in what they belie. So, to answer your question then No. The truth is still the truth whether a person chooses to accept it or not or whether a person finds it or not.

Your 'logic' is flawed; science (directed logic regarding some matters) is God's pattern of doing things. Part of the 'illogic' is many (USA) 'Christians' currently do not comprehend it (the logic; the rule); and may turn off 'atheists and agnostics' with their failure to apply it.
True science is logical, and faith is a developed 'logic' (a realization of one's limited knowledge of the logic; trust in God's logic). There are also things that may be an 'exception to the rule'.

yes.
the act of creation is as true scientifically (the big bang) and you can for want of no better reason choose to put a creator in the picture or admire the fact that you can not 'know' because of the limits of today's human knowledge.
Truth is what is.
Theres no point anyway ..
