The whole "religion" thing works against even the most reasonable belief system, so it's moot - but I guess Buddhism is a nice way of going about things without depending on a nasty God, threatening non-followers with agony, or prosletyzing all and sundry. Plus Buddhists are usually nice.

I don't know a great deal about Jainists, but they seem cool as well.

Depends on whether you consider Buddhism a religion or not. If so, I'd say Buddhism tops my list, because it's based on logical thinking and not a dualistic mindset... individual responsibility for correct view or not vs. "good" and "evil" coming from an outside deity or concept.

Behind that, I rank the Gnostics because theirs is a Christianity that follows in similar philosophy to Buddhism, based on Christ's alleged teachings along that line.

I see Buddhism to be ahead of all the rest.

"The Buddha's teachings can be understood on two distinct levels. One is logical and conceptual and is concerned with an intellectual comprehension of man and the external universe.

The second level is empirical, experiential and psychological. It concerns the ever-present and inescapable phenomena of everyday human experience -- love and hate, fear and sorrow, pride and passion, frustration and elation. And most important, it explains the origins of such states of mind and prescribes the means for cultivating those states which are rewarding and wholesome and of diminishing those which are unsatisfactory and unwholesome."

None of this hocus pocus wave of the hand and lo and behold there was light.

i dont think any religion is "ahead" another really. every religion poses many things people need. it can bring love, hope, and can bring a humbling experience knowing you arent the most powerful being and others of course.

but then again religion (all religions) have ugly sides to them which show themselves especially here. they can bring about arrogance, ignorance, hate, pride, a feeling of invincibility (for christianity especially with confessions) and others. so each religion brings many of the same things to the table.

I cant respect any religion that believes in a hell. eternal suffering for one life of the wrong choices is BS. We're all given the chance to learn and we all make mistakes. Any religion that accepts human nature and believes in a "whole" is well on it's way.

If all religions are based on a creature that no human in modern times has ever seen how can I find any logic.

By far, deism.

If you're looking for traditional religion, then Catholicism is my choice. The Church seems to be the most acceptant of modern science.

Well Unitarian Universalism seems cool, as well as Buddhism, Shintoism, Taoism just to name a few as they allow people to go about living life a certain way and don't go about trying to win people over to their way of thinking.

Everything good about religion can be maintained without it. E.g. thou shall not kill/steal - most people wouldn't kill or steal regardless of their religion.
The only things that religion adds are crazy rituals, discrimination, blind obedience... basically all the bad stuff.
