They are in violation of several noise and public disturbance ordaninces but the city will not enforce the law because they are afraid of looking bad. The leaders of the Mosque have already recieved numerous complaints but they don't care about the rest of Brooklyn that has to suffer through thier broadcasts, as long as they're happy. The leaders of the Mosque know that it upsets people but that the city won't do anything. They continue to do it so as to assert thier dominance and control over Brooklyn. They want to show the city of New York that they are in control.
The only way to deal with the problem is to sue them in civil court. Unfortunately this would be expensive and the Mosque has a team of high priced lawers (ironically mostly Jewish) to defend them and make sure you never see your day in court. You should form a community group and see if you can raise money for a lawer. Just because the politicians in New York won't enforce the laws doesn't mean they can deprive you of your rights. This is still America, if only for a short time.

Good grief ! I can only imagine how annoying that is !!! I live in Texas and am very weary of the noise coming from the tree trimmers for the past few days, , but that is mild compared to what you experience every day. First, I would make a visit to that mosque and vocalize that complaint. Next, I would hand deliver that complaint in writing to the mosque... the more signatures the merrier. Then, I would make sure to appear before the next city council meeting to find out why this noise ordinance is not enforced. You can be sure if you cranked up Jimmy Hendricks at the same time these calls to prayer were broadcast, someone in a uniform would be at your front door. Asa matter of fact, I highly recommend it.

I have some thoughts. The people that move on a golf course that complain about golf balls in their yard and hitting the house well, they moved to the spot and have no right to complain about poor golfing. What I am saying is that they have a right to practice their religion but they moved to your neighborhood. Who do they think they are when a Christian goes to their country they can send you to prison or worse for proselytizing. They are here now and why should they act like they are living in the middle east. The other thing is that in most towns your hear a whistle at noon and the church rings the bell periodically would you complain about that? I think it adds some character to your community. The thing is could you find a compromise and keep the law out of it at first by speaking to the leadership.

I can see that there is a lot or prejudice against Islam in the answers to your question. This reflects the current world situation. I wonder if people will ever accept the fact that we live in a multicultural world, and the only way we are going to get along is to let as much love as we can get into ourselves for our fellow citizens. This goes both ways. It can not work if one side or the other will insist on a negative approach.
So, approach these fellow citizens with love and respect. That way you will be much more likely to get that back from them. If you approach belligerently, you will likely get that back from them.
These are Americans too. Their country is America not Iran or Iraq. They don't mean to bother you. The words from the loud speakers are beautiful to them, not a noise. Do they complain to you when all the stores are full of Christmas songs?
Gee Whiz! I thought you all knew that by now!

People in your area must conduct a plebiscite whether to allow or not the loudspeaker to make the whaling 4 times everyday. The vote of the majority must be respected since it is a valid exercise of choice.

It depends on your community but in my experience as a public servant the noise must be persistent beyond what is just a minor annoyance. I've heard similar complaints about churchbells and church chimes every hour on the hour. And if my may say usually the complaintant is hostile to religious symbols. While I am an atheist and prefer not to have religion shoved down my throat, the church bells around the corner from my house just didn't offend me. Are you sure you're just not a little hostile to Islam? Would church bells from St. Peter's both you a bit less?

I would keep calling the police, and take it as high as you could. That Mosque is violating your rights to have peace, and quiet in your neighborhood, and I wouldn't let this go. They obviously have no respect for the good folks of the neighborhood, so if I were you, I wouldn't think twice about filing a complaint. The officials will have to do something about it if you keep on complaining.

I guess annoying noises are forbidden, especially at nite or in the early morning. What then,if all your neighbourhood would play loud music all day long??? Maybe you alone can't do much, but with a complaining neighbourhood maybe the authorities will do something....
