I've found that this type of person is behaving in such a way on purpose for the reason of trying to remain gender neutral. Any attempt to "pull out" their true gender will be considered rude to them. This type of person will usually remain unmarried to that line of questioning will more than likely fail. Even if they have a boyfriend or girlfriend that will not tell their true gender since you have no idea whether they are gay or not.
If you really want to know the only way is to talk to them about your observation of them and you are confused as to how to address them (should you call them he or she, him or her) and find out what they prefer. Chances are they won't tell you but its worth a shot.

Case of the PAT eh?
Usually you can tell if they have an adams apple.
BUT there are exceptions. Sometimes theres just no way of knowing just by looking at their appearance/hearing their voice unless you view their genitals.
But remember, SOME PEOPLE ARE HERMAPRODITES too.
Asking if their spouse is male or female wont verify anything .He/she could be a homosexual. So that doesnt tell you ANYTHING.
If you want to be discreet and YOU MUST know. Ask a mutual friend or something.

You can usually tell by their voice. Some ppl have a different sounding voice but most of the time you can tell... and dont like GAULK at them but if you can see a certain part the other gender doesnt not have then that might help too. then that way you arent risking being rude

If you haven't noticed an adam's apple, then you might chech their fingers. Men tend to have a somewhat longer ring finger compared to their index finger. For women, their index and ring finger are approximately the same length. This is generally true, and is dependent on testosterone levels while in the womb. I have also known some women that have a much longer ring finger. So, it is only a guideline, not a rule.

Look at the throat, men have large adam's apples. Look at the hands, and feet. Men have large hands, and feet. Listen to their voice, usually a dead giveaway. Is their behavior extra flamboyant.
