Fata points to a very good idea. Take the ferry to Mui Wo on Lantau Island (from Pier 6 on the Hong Kong side of the harbour), then the bus up to the Big Buddha, then the cable car down to Tung Chung (near the airport), then the train back to central Hong Kong. Or do it in reverse order. You'll need the ferry timetable and the bus timetable if you want to do it really exactly (they are on the internet), but the ferries and the buses run about every 20 minutes during the day. The train from Tung Chung to the city is pretty much every 10 minutes and the fare is around HK$20

This will chew up a good chunk of a whole day, but you'll see 'another' side of Hong Kong that most tourists don't get - and that is how 'green' the countryside is.

The Ngong Ping cable car fare is HK$58 one way, and HK$88 return. The ferry and bus will set you back about HK$25 or so (see the links for details). You can buy 'combined' tickets for Ngong Ping that include the cable car and attractions at Ngong Ping. See the links for more pricing details, and remember that these are Hong Kong dollar prices, US$ is much cheaper.

Hmm, now of course I check and find that the Hollywood Hotel is ON Lantau. In that case a taxi to Tung Chung would work well. You could still do the 'round trip' including the ferry, but you'd then take the train back from Central Hong Kong to Disneyland or the nearest train stop to the Hollywood Hotel (I think that'd be it). Or you could take the cable car to Ngong Ping, and then the bus back to to Tung Chung - the bus ride is said to be 'terrifying' back over the mountain - if you like that sort of thing!

Oh, another 'Oh' thing. We're both assuming you mean the 'Giant Buddha' rather than the 'Golden Buddha'. There are some golden Buddha statues at Ngong Ping, but the 'big' (literally) attraction is the Giant Buddha.

Have a great holiday.

What I did, four years ago, was to take the ferry from HK to Lantau. Once in Lantau, right there at the port, there are tourism offices and I bought a half day package. The bus took us to the Buddha, Polin monastery and a couple more of places in Lantau. It was very economic, enjoyable and worth to try .

Cheers,
