It seems very close. I think people like Joel Osteen and the TBN crowd like Paul Crouch, Benny Hinn and their kind are forerunners of the global ecumenicism that will occur under the Antichrist. For those who want to get technical, I know there are many antichrists, and the Antichrist is really the false prophet who will be the puppet of The Beast, but we call him the Antichrist anyway. An Antichrist by any name will smell as sweet, but the sweetness is an illusion. One thing is for sure, we are one closer to it today than we were yesterday.

The rapture is really in 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17. The wars and rumors of wars is in Matthew 24 and Mark 13. Jude has a lot to say about the times preceding the rapture, as does 1st and 2nd Timothy. It looks like it's any second now! The Great Apostasy is burgeoning at least, and that's the real last sign before we are caught up together in the clouds. 2nd Thessalonians 2 kind of makes me think we'll see the antichrist, but it could mean that he'll be revealed after the rapture, I'm not sure. Either way, the times, they are a changin'. Let's make every effort not to do things we'll be ashamed of when Daddy come to pick us up!

Personally, I don't take revelations literally
Furthermore, even if you do, it states clearly that Christians will not be given a get out of apocalypse free card (not in those words of course), but a close reading will not support the rapture point of view.
Humans have thought the world was about to end for quite awhile, and no matter whether it is literal or not, we must always take it for what it truly is, a call to action, now!
Today is the day of salvation, and too many fundamentalists have the attitude that because they think that the end times are near, that there's nothing we can do here, but pray, and sit back and watch. That is not the case.

Well biblically the rapture could have taken place any time since the ascension of Jesus Christ until now. It is one of the prophecies in the Bible that does not hinge on any other prophecy. All the other prophecies about wars and rumors of wars really have to do with the second coming of Christ and not with the rapture. All we really know about the rapture is that it needs to take place at least seven years before the second coming of Christ to allow for the great tribulation.

There is not one prophecy that needs to be filled before Jesus returns for his church.
The rapture could happen today, but it is likely to happen at Rosh Hashanah of some year in the near future, possibly this year, maybe next year, or five years from now.
The only thing the Bible says for certain about when the rapture happens, is in Revelation 6:9-11;
9 ¶ And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

Before you get all excited, get a ruler and make a timeline from Jesus till now ... now list all the wars and "rumors of wars" there have been from then till now.
Yeah, as you can see, there has been no time period where there were no wars or rumors of wars.

I know that " the word of God is alive and powerful, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder, of the soul and the spirits, the joint and the marrow and it is a critic of thoughts and the intent of the heart, all scripture is God breathed...."
I know that the Doctrine of the shield was envoked.
God frustrates the plans of evil nations.
PSALM 33 :16
"No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warriour escapes by his great strengh"
Psalm 33:20
"We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield".
' ya' can't touch us, do, do do do, do
do do do Ya can't touch us do dodo do do do work it down.
I believe that Revelation is very near.
I look forward to meeting all the invisible hero's who have prayed.
Peace in the Millenium.

My thoughts are these:
If I was God, I'd be pretty fed up with the way we've messed up His earth.
If I was God, I'd be saddened and angered by the fact that so many people have shunned their Creator.
If I was God, I'd be torn between destroying everyone and giving them another chance.
It's a good thing I'm not God.

That's hard to tell, a year in our eyes is a millisecond in God's eye.
More prophecies must come to be before the return of Christ.
God Bless You.

As you said, no one can really know, but, I do think it is closer then we all think. I wouldn't want to get any more specific then that at the risk of sounding like I have a clue.
