The Caribbean - its a great place where you can do a lot of outdoor water activities, and still have a lot of solitude. The only thing is you have to be careful of which island you pick and when you go.
Jamaica - this is a very big tourist stop and has a lot of crime problems
Dominican Republic/Hait - political problems, I wouldn't recommend either for a honeymoon.
USVI/BVI - more crowded than some of the other islands and have a lot of the american feel
Antigua - my favorite, but then I'm partial. Their slogan is that they have a beach for every day of the year. The ones w/ hotels on them tend to be crowded but it is simple enough to find an empty one.
Dominica - beautiful as well. Waterfall for every day of the year. have lots of variation w/ many mountains and rainforest as well as the beach scene.
St. Lucia - beautiful. a lot quieter than many of the others
The Bahamas - I wouldn't go to Nassau (new providence) or Freeport (Grand Bahama), both are very crowded. Abaco is a lot quieter (very few ppl live here at least in comparison to Nassaus 200,000 which is a lot for the islands) but still has many interesting restaurants.
The main problem with the caribbean is hurrican season, which lasts from about may/june till about october. So basically if your wedding is in the summer pic somewhere else. Which means that if you want the island atmosphere go to one of the Hawaii islands.
I agree that any place you would go for sightseeing should be held off for an anniversary

My wife and I went to Cancun. I highly recomend it or other places that have all-inclusive resorts such as other places in Mexico, Jamaica, or other Caribbean locations.
All-inclusive locations are great because you dont have to worry about carrying around money throughout your stay. Granted, you will need some cash for extra things like massages or outings, but your food and drinks are included, not to mention all you can eat and drink!
For some reason I always think of honeymoons in a nice tropical location which is why we chose Mexico. But a nice European trip with stops in romantic spots such as Venice, Rome and Paris could also be great. Or if you wanted to combine the two, go to a great place called Cinqua Terra on the west coast of Italy. Or Nice, on the French Riviera.
Bottom line, you cant go wrong on your hooneymoon (assuming you marry the right person!) It should be a high-point in your life an a time to remember.

Personally, I'd save the "sightseeing" trips to Europe for future anniversaries. Honeymoons should be all about the two of you spending time alone together as a newly married couple, enjoying each other and learning new ways to please each other. If you're "doing it right", you're pretty much oblivious to the world around you. Not a good way to tour the sights. I would do a cruise in the Caribbean or maybe to Alaska if that's your thing. That way, you don't have to move to see the sights - the boat does it for you. Or if you don't want to take a cruise, consider an all-inclusive place in Jamaica or whatever sunny island you prefer. Sandals is a pretty good one. Cruises or all-inclusive resorts provide the locale, fun, food, and often drinks so that all you have to worry about is showing up. Keeping your stress level low should be a high priority for a honeymoon.

Go to Italy. You will fall in love with Italy and the Italians. Depending what time of the year you go, you can get bargains to Europe in the early spring and fall. A beautiful honeymoon trip would be Rome, Venice and Florence. Italy is beautiful and there is so much to see. Go to a good travel agent that specializes in honeymoon trips and have them make up a trip for you. I have a great tour company called Gate I Travel. They are great and inexpensive. Check them out. They have a website and you can call them and ask them to send you a brochure. They specialize in European tours. Also go online and check out other Tour Groups. Globus Tours is good too. Perillo Tours. But if you want to go on your own and set up your own vacation honeymoon, you can do that, but I would buy a book on vacations in Europe by Fodor's. That you can get in Borders Book Store. Good Luck.

If you have never been abroad, it might be best to stay domestic for the honeymoon so you don't have to deal with the additional hassles of getting passports, visas, etc while planning a vacation.
I would suggest the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii.

I would suggest one of the resorts in Jamaica and the related islands, like Couples or Sandals. They have pretty good packages for great prices, like less than $3,000 for 6 days/7 nights and it includes your hotel room, all food, drinks, tips, etc. I have two friends who used that package for their honeymoons and they said they pretty much didn't have to take any money with them, and it was a nice weight off their shoulders that something was already paid for! One less thing to worry about. Also, since it's a resort, the hotel itself is very helpful when it comes to planning activities or giving suggestions about what to do when you're there. Everyone I know who has done it raves about the trip, and they all suggest the all-inclusive packages. Good luck, and have fun!

Hawaii is a popular honeymoon destination, but I don't think it is exactly romantic. Italy would be nice. Maybe even France. Another thing that might interest you is to take a road trip around the U.S. to visit some popular tourist attractions. Also, Alaska is a nice place to visit in the summer.

Venice of course.
What time of year? Do you like hot and sunny, or do you prefer a bit cooler? How are you with humidity?
Went to Austrian mountains for ours. Nice and warm, but plenty of fresh air. Loved it. (End of July, beginning August - take a waterproof - usually get a bit of rain at some point! Also can have quite cold patches when you need a jumper/fleece)
Sure you will have a lovely time wherever you decide! xxx
