A Cleanser: There are many good gentle cleansers on the market. Look for a cleanser made specifically for the face that does not overdry. You want something that cleanses but does not strip the skin. Look for a cleanser that does not contain any active ingredients. One exception is the active ingredient triclosan which is a mild antibacterial. It should not create a problem. Avoid using bath soap on your face.

A 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel or cream: Several studies show that a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide solution actually works better than the overdrying 10% solutions. So why are most of the benzoyl peroxide medications on the market in 10% strength? Because this is the legal limit for over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide and marketers know that people will always buy "maximum strength" if they can. However, in the case of benzoyl peroxide, maximum strength gels and creams are not as effective as their lower strength counterparts. As it turns out, 2.5% benzoyl peroxide is just as effective in killing acne bacteria as the higher concentrations. With 2.5% you get all the beneficial effects of benzoyl peroxide without the excess irritation that can make acne worse. (Medical study references: 1 2)

Even at this low percentage, it may take your face a couple of weeks to get used to benzoyl peroxide. For this reason, it is extremely important to slowly ramp up the dosage over the first few weeks on the Regimen. If you have sensitive skin, start with one application per day for the first week.

A word of caution: about 1-3% of people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide and experience severe swelling and/or crusting. You may want to test a spot on your skin first. Also, benzoyl peroxide can bleach fabrics. Be careful about getting it on clothing that you love.

Tip: after you have squeezed out everything in the tube, you can still cut it in half and get quite a bit more out with your finger.

A Moisturizer: If you use as much benzoyl peroxide as I recommend you will need a moisturizer so you can keep your skin from becoming overly dry. It is vitally important that you begin moisturizing from day one on the Regimen, even if your skin doesn't seem to need it at first. Moisturizing will help keep your skin in balance and will help prevent some of the initial drying/reddening effects of benzoyl peroxide. There are precious few moisturizers on the market that handle the flakiness associated with benzoyl peroxide. I am working on making one for us myself, but that is months away. So, in the meantime we have two options.

1. Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion (the one in the 8oz. or 16oz. size) is the only simple moisturizer that I have found that takes care of flakiness. I find it a bit thick and don't love the feel of it, but it's the best we've got for now. After you've been on the Regimen for a few weeks you can start adding in a gentle alpha hydroxy moisturizer such as Lac Hydrin Five (mild) or Neutrogena Healthy Skin with AHA (pretty intense) if you'd like. These moisturizers, especially Neutrogena Healthy Skin, may sting at the onset of the regimen, but the alpha hydroxy contained in their formulations takes care of flakiness well.

2. My prefered method: add 3 drops of jojoba oil to your palm along with any light facial moisturizer and mix them before applying. Jojoba oil has a long history of use in skin and hair care products. Most oils are best avoided in conjunction with acne prone skin. Jojoba oil is an exception and is not only non-comedogenic, it may be beneficial. Because it's chemical structure closely mimicks the oil in our skin (sebum), it may help trick the skin to stop over-producing sebum. It also works brilliantly at stopping flakes. You can find it at most health food stores. A small bottle will not cost much and will last you for a very long time.

A Razor (for men): The Gillette Sensor Excel is the best razor I have tried. It does a great job at reducing shaving irritation. I tried the Mach3, Mach3 Turbo, Quattro, and Fusion and they are all hyper-irritating compared to the Sensor Excel. Plus they're more expensive. I highly recommend that men who use the Regimen use the Sensor Excel, or if you can't get your hands on the Sensor Excel, try to find a similar two blade razor like the Gillette Good News Pivot Plus. To prevent irritation, the blade should be changed often. In the case of a disposable razor, the entire razor should be changed often. I change the Sensor Excel blades about once a week. When using the Good News disposables I had to use a new disposable after only a few days. Also, I am not a fan of electric razors. Every electric I've tried has been irritating.

A tiny amount of pure tea tree oil dabbed onto each spot with a cotton bud. Tea tree oil is best used undiluted unlike most essential oils as when it is diluted, extra bacteria are introduced which makes it less effective.

Well, just to let you know that this is weird but my grandmother told me that if you use your morning urine and put it on your face it should clear up in a few days. She said she had zits really bad and thats what she did. And she didn't do that because she was poor she was actually pretty rich a maid had told her to do that and she did it and it works. I never tried it.

toothpaste--the paste and not the gel. Just put a dab on the zit at night and it should be gone by the morning.
