Make it original. Of course everyone will be doing topics on the death penalty, abortion, horses, medicine, presidents, and historical figures and bla bla BLEH.
Go beyond. Want a really interesting presentation? Want people to listen to what you're saying? Then try these-
The Mafia- man, what a dark world here. Al Capone, George Moran, there's so much to talk about.
Witchcraft- discuss the history, maybe the Salem Witch Trials (Google that), magic practices...
Benjamin Franklin- his personal life (hint: he was a playboy)
Adolf Hitler- I heard he had a look-alike. Check into that. It's been on Unsolved Mysteries (really eerie story, too).
Serial Killers- get into the psychology of these people. Talk about Ted Bundy, Jeffery Dahmer, or serial killers of the past.
Cinematography- on a lighter note, look into some of the earliest movies and moviestars (Charlie Chaplin, for example, or Marilyn Monroe for a later version).
Pornography- talk about the psychological aspect of it on men. How does it harm them? Change their lives? The statistics are alarming!
Sandwiches- seriously, I did this one and got an A in college for it. I talked about the history of sandwiches.
Think outside the box! Good luck!

how do you feel about fur? if you're against it, there's a lot of info on the peta website, and you could talk about how unethical it is. you could talk about alternatives, too. it would be really cool if you could get a swatch of real fur and a swatch of fake fur and see if people could tell the difference.
if it really can be about anything, you could give a synopsis of your favorite tv show. bring in pictures of each character and describe them all, and tell the class why it's a significant show.
you could talk about your family, like where your ancestors are from and why they came to america. then you could bring in a family tree and tell the class a little bit about each person in your family. it could get a little boring, but if you're funny, it would be pretty cool to watch.
you could tell the class about where you want to be in ten years. describe everything: your job, your salary, where you live, what/if you drive, your friends, if you have a boy/girlfriend, etc. that one would be a lot of fun. you could bring in a posterboard with a collage of your life in ten years. that would be really cool.
you could talk about music. bring in a cd of your favorite artist or group and if its appropriate, you could play it for the class. tell everyone why you like it. maybe you could make a soundtrack to your life, and bring that one in. you'd have to explain why each song maters to you though.
you could talk about how they're taking extra curriculars out of schools, or oil spills, or you could talk about your dream vacation, or how short people look better than tall people. all that really matters is that you make it interesting, and at least pretend to care while you're presenting it.props are always good too.
