so that you aren't sad or mad that you can't have a dog??Besides getting a different pet if you're 11?

Volunteer to walk the neighbors or friends dogs or take care of them if they go out of town.

The first thing is to try and understand that having a dog or some other kind of pet is lots of work. You will be ready for that maybe a little later. Secondly, there are lots of outside animals you can get involved with -- like birds or spiders. You don't need to keep them in the house with you -- they will stay in your yard and let you watch them. You can learn all about the different kinds, what they eat, how they nest, how many babies they have. There are lots of books at your library that will help you learn all about them. Having an interest in all the living things in your yard is a great way to prepare yourself for your own pet later on (even if you have to wait until you grow up).

Well if your family is really set against you having a dog...then I say go and volunteer at your local Humane Society or Pet Shelter. You will get to interact with animals and your family will be proud of you! (and you will be doing a wonderful thing!)

always wanted a dog as a kid,wasn't allowed one,but hey the next best thing i found was fish,great to look after,takes abit of work but the results can be great,setting up and looking after them is a good way to spend time,they also have a calming effect on you.cool stuff i think.

Talk to your parents and explain how you feel and let them help you find a pet that will fit in with your family situation.
