He didn't have a coupon for the nearest McDonalds...It wasn't on sale! (And besides, I doubt they would be serving "Decapitated roadrunner on a plate.")

He didn't buy dinner because you lose all his money on a bet that he lost. The bet was that he wouldn't buy the Acme he had to buy it because it thought it was the "cool" thing to do.
