Well, a question deserves a reasoned, cogent, and logical answer. For some questions this means a long answer is necessary. If someone has taken the time to provide us with a well thought out response it is a matter of simple courtesy to read their responses.
What is more annoying is the questions that exceed the 1000 character limit. Folks seem to think they have a bully pulpit and keep adding to the question, until we have a dialog going on (chatting) which is a violation of the community guidelines.

Depends on whta its for. If its just quotes from the bible, yes. Because that isn't an answer. If its a well researched, well thought out answer with lots of new information cited with where they found the information, then definately not.
Learning is a good thing and I'm more than happy to learn something new every day, even if its in a long post on the internet.

You knew this was coming right?
Your questions brings up the interesting topic of the the shortening of attention spans in the younger generation which might be caused by their addiction to both the TV culture and to the prevalence of video games, which overstimulates the children with non-stop action, setting up the expectation of the same sort of conditions in real life; this of course leads to disappointment in not only life its self but also the inability to set and maintain long-term goal and action plans as evidenced by the scatter shot methods employed by the news organizations with their incessant 2 minute stories as part of the 24 hour news cycle, which in turn . . . . .

I tend to be a bit long-winded sometimes, trying too hard to explain myself probably. However I too get annoyed at the really really long ones - especially since they give the impression of being copied and pasted. I usually read the first couple of lines, then skim right down to the end, and in order to hide them (so they don't get in the way of my seing other shorter answers), I give them a thumbs down. Not out of spite, just to get them out of the way!

The purpose of this site is to ask a question and get an answer so I think that long answers are good because people are actually trying to answer your question.

This supposedly is a place of learning, not sound bytes. Try Chat rooms if you want consistently short answers. Religion is a subject without short answers unless you accept what you are told without thought.

Only if its cut and paste crap, but if someone is taking the time to sit and think about YOUR question, and tries to awns er it to the best of their knowledge, I give them credit for taking the time to do so. And its interesting to hear peoples view points as well.

A lot of questions require a longer answer, especially concerning religion.
