I have to get my next dosage for my shot over spring break. Which is the same time I am getting a tattoo on my back. Is it safe or am I setting myself up for infection??? PLEASE HELP? Also should I have all three shots before I get ink done?

Verdantsea, thank you for your answer. I was beginning to wonder!!!

For those of you that don't understand much about hepatitis - It is NOT just C that is bloodborne, hepatitis B is too, and has been known to be acquired through poor tattoo techniques. Why do you think we do not help these "scratchers" who come on here trying to "set up shop" and learn to tattoo via the Internet?

This is a very safe profession when artists are following proper standards. To answer the question, tattooing will not cause complications for the vaccine, nor will the vaccine cause problems for the tattoo. You will simply not have achieved "immunity" by then.

The vaccination would not cause any increased risk of infection. If you are concerned about immunity to the HepB that would only be confirmed by a test for the anti-bodies at some point following the last injection. If this is a concern I would have the test before the ink. The tattoo parlor should be using adequate sterilization procedures. Don't be shy about asking to see them. Very important too...when your tattoo is fresh and healing DON"T let people touch it!

Your thinking of the wrong hepatitis. hepatitis b is caused by sex and dirty water...commonly caught on holidays, hepatitis c is commonly caught by sex and needles and there is no vaccine for that hepitiitis, people with that hep usually also have HIV as well. There is tons of different forms of the virus, and only a vaccine for A andB. A dirty needle is a dirty needle

Even if you are vaccinated with twinrex or whatever brand you used for hep b or a, if the needle is has hep b it could have much much much worse. Pamela Anderson got hep c from a tattoo needle...no vacination

Yes, you can go ahead and get your tattoo. It is Hepatitis C that is related to tattoos... which there is no immunization for so it doesn't even matter if you haven't had any Hep B shots first. So have fun, and I hope you absolutely love your tattoo!

Good Luck!

You need to let the artist know in advance.
