how to impress a lebanese family?

OK heres the thing. Ive been dating my boyfriend for 6 months and I have been really apart of his family life since. I am an American btw. Its not like his family doesnt except Americans into thier family he has 4 uncles and every one is married to an American woman. Yet I have been having such a hard time adapting to the culture that his mother threatened to ban me from the family. I want to impress him and find the right way to apologize to his mother. what can I do?

BE YOURSELF, sweety. Tell your mother-in-law straight up the way you feel, how you would like to be treated and ask her how she likes to be treated as well.

There is not much you can do to impress people with cultural misconceptions or unrealistic standards--such as your boyfriend's mother. That is often something that comes as a matter of personal growth. You have an advantage perhaps over a Lebanese girl, who may have a more controlling family. If the family are like most Lebanese in America they are Catholic. Don't go out of your way, but be respectful of often conservative outlooks they may have on dating and relationships. Lebanese are hospitable people too. They like to serve food. If there is something that you are going to turn down, point out that you have eaten or that you would like to try some or take it home with you. If they are Muslim, do more so the same. Muslim Arabs are very hospitable and almost expect someone to have food or tea with them. Overall, apologize lightly. Don't make an issue of it lest she make a bigger issue out of it.
