Your dog needs training very badly. There are training classes at petco and petsmart, you might need one on one training since your dog is not good around other dogs right now. go to Cesar Milans website and read what he has to say about aggressive small dogs. It might be helpful for you. The dog is running your life and you should be running his life. but never hit your dog ever. He needs to know who the leader of the pack is and right now he is and you should be.

Ok never ever hit your dog. It will only make her aggressive or cower in fear from you. Got that! OK. Now it seems that she has not been socialized well. When the only person she sees or is around is you, she will become protective and defensive. I think she has already gone beyond that now, so youll have to take some corrective measures in retraining her. I would call a local obedience center that has a good reputation and seek counsel. You need to socialize her to calm and soothing people and other pets. However, since she bites and fights already you have to do it with knowledge or youll make her worse or put others in danger. Locking her up when people come over is probably the worst thing you could do.

More than likely, you are letting your dog be the "Pack Leader" in your relationship. Your dog is protecting you because he thinks he is in charge and has to. You can find great information about dog psychology from Cesar Milan, the "Dog Whisperer". He has a show on the National Geographic Channel and truly understands dog behavior. You can visit his website here:

Being a pack leader doesn't mean you have to hit your dog, but he has to know who's boss.

I raise Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and if I ever had one of them that acted like that I would but it down because that is NOT the characteristic of a CKCS, but is that the characteristic of your breed of dog? You may hate locking her up but that is better than having to deal with a lawsuit because your dog was so aggressive it harmed someone. Due to Pit Bulls, people are becoming less tolerant of aggressive dogs than they ever have before and the laws are changing. I would definitely keep her from other animals and people, for your sake as well as hers.

Your dog's characteristics are typical of her bereeds' characteristics.
CHIHUAHUAS are strong-willed, loyal and very attached to their owners, to the point of jealousy. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. It may snap at teasing children. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. Socialize your Chihuahua as a pup to avoid excessive aggressiveness with other dogs as well as reserve with strangers. They tend to be fairly dog-aggressive. Chihuahuas generally recognize their own breed, but sometimes disapprove of other breeds. However, a "very" well-socialized Chihuahua can be friendly with strangers and other dogs.
DOBERMANS like to be physically close to family members. They can be pushy if allowed to have their own way too much. They are naturally protective and should be thoroughly socialized when young to prevent over-protectiveness. They will fiercely defend their master if it becomes necessary. Aggression towards other dogs is standard.
I know this isn't "advice" but at least you know it's not you or anything you've done, your dog is naturally prone to these behaviors. Now I am not a dog trainer so I can only offer my opinion: socializing your dog gradually seems to be the way, but I guess you can't if she's biting people. Maybe have the guest coming to your house come in with a small treat for her, tell them not to make any sudden movements toward you but to move around slowly, and not reach for the dog, but let the dog come to them.
I have a Pug and she is very shy and when I am out walking her, people (mostly little kids) want to pet her because she's so "tiny and cute" to them. So, mostly kids, will make the mistake of running toward her loudly with their arms open wanting to hold her and pet her and this scares her to death.
When you are out in public ask people to approach slowly and to kneel down to her level, at a distance, and hold their hand out for her to sniff. Maybe just warn approaching people to keep their distance and let her approach them on her own, but not while you are holding her because then she might think they are coming toward YOU and she will want to protect you.
