I think it started as an unavoidable weather-related bad situation. However everything after that was due to ignorance and bad planning on Jet Blue's side. For a company whose great strength WAS that they really care about their customers, the failure to do something generous and showy before it all turned into a public relations nightmare is hard to understand.

If they had just said we are stuck here and the Feds won't let us permit you to get off. However since we are JetBlue we will be giving out free drinks and have sent a passenger agent to pick up some trays of sandwiches that they will load onto the plane (along with some movie tapes and an offer of free phone calls back to the families) they would have been hailed as heroes.

This is a normal occurance in bad weather. Since the US has not had a bad winter for number of years, people have forgotten how it can shut everything down. They responded in a very positvive way by providing full refunds.

Sounds like a de-icing pblm. Perhaps they don't have enough equipment for low temps.
