Quetzalcoatl and his similarities to Jesus Christ, which Cortez and the other Spaniards noticed when they arrived there.
They built lots of temples for Quetzalcoatl and taught of him with the white God of the skies that was killed in a faraway land to ransom their sins. When Cortez' crew first landed, the people thought he was Quetzalcoatl and bowed down before him, which is why it was so easy for Cortez to kill them.
The Mayans and Aztecs each also methematically predicted an end of the world, which coincided with their religious beliefs, scheduled to happen anywhere from 30 to 350 years from now. That might be interesting.
The Mormons teach that Jesus Christ visited different people all over the world after his resurrection (just like he did in Jerusalem with the apostles), which may explain why many traditions resemble the main tenets of a grand human sacrifice for sin, or of a "child of the gods", like some people still believe about Buddha today. Food for thought...

How about the influence of Mayan religion on the jewelry worn at the Academy Awards.....kidding
It is a hugely rich culture, talk about a god and his role in the Mayan daily life, talk about distruction of Mayan religion by the missionaries that came and Christianized the peoples. There are lots of things like that.

You could mention the calender and what the Mayans thought was happening during the lunar eclipses, if that has anything to do with religion. Holidays, sacrifices, temples, beliefs (like the afterlife: what it would be like, tests, scripts to help get there), anything like a messiah, their gods and goddesses and what they are the deities of.

How about the fact that they built over the old cities..? They believed in life cycles... so every XX years (don't remember) they 'started' all over again... so they build new pyramids over the ones that already existed... and it has something to do with their religion too.

They believed in cycles... and these cycles were reflected in the underworld, earth and sky. They were also very advance in maths, this allowed them to make calculations of the celestial movements and make predictions. They have many gods, for instance Chaac was the good of rain and thunder.

I would talk about their temples. There's lots of data on them and they're quite fascinating, so it'd be easy to fill up a page on them.
