I'm for security cameras as a way of stopping the violence that plagues so many schools these days. Also, I believe cameras would deter crimes, like drug sales.
People who are against cameras will say there's a right to privacy that shouldn't be sacrificed, but you have to balance the evils. Is it worth losing a little privacy in order to prevent violence and crimes? To me, that's an easy choice.
It's important that we understand that anyone 17 and under is a child, according the law. That means you can't take adult life and try to map that onto a child's expectations.
We need to keep children safe in the schools, and we need to keep them away from criminal actions and temptations. Cameras can help that effort.

Why not, it will help enforce things around school. And as long as the videos are used only for security reasons I don't see any problems with it.

I am totally for them, because so many students at my own school go and skip class and do drugs and whatever. I think that it is a good idea. Plus students need boundaries. Most of them don't have boundaries at home, and need them to become a better citizen in society. Therefore getting caught and being punished for their own wrong-doings will cause them to learn maybe a sense of right and wrong. Hope I helped!

It's a vastly different world today, than when I was growing up. Used to, we would have thought of those as an invasion of privacy. But given the level of violence schools have been experiencing in recent years, I think I'm for them. Mainly for the safety of our youth. They deserve to have a safe learning environment.

Definitely For!! There are too many kids killing each other in schools now! I believe in any kind of security to protect children. I'm just really glad that my kids are grown! But know i have my grand-kids to worry about!

There are good reasons for them
And bad reasons so I guess I'm somewhere in the middle, like if someone came into the school and started shooting, it'd be great to catch it on camera, but they shouldn't use it for punishing kids for petty stuff.

There is absolutely NO reason to NOT have cameras in schools. It's a very good idea.

Against. Why should we install cameras? We already pay the staff to oversee what goes on. Here's how they used to do it. When the bell rings and the students are released into the halls en route to their next class, you get off your lazy a** and walk into the hallway to monitor the little animals (sorry guys).

Uhhmm to be honest, I HATE THEM.
It's like they are watching everything you are doing. We should have at least some privacy, whether it be our lockers or whatever, and now they've taken away that too with stupid cameras.
I guess they are okay though. If something gets stolen from you, these cameras will get it back. But meh.
They still suck!

I don't see any harm in them...the only people that would have a problem, would be anyone that is doing something that they know they shouldn't....I have two kids of my own, and if having cameras in the school meant kids actually behaved, I'm all for it...
