I have a red brick fireplace in my living room that is 18 years old. I painted it white a few months ago because I didnt like it and now it is even worse. I want to tile it. Can I remove it? I want to take all the brick down and learn to tile:) It doesnt look that hard. How do I take the brick off? Thank you for your help!

Begin at the top with a hammer and knock off one brick at a time as you work downward. It isn't too difficult to do. You may run into problems replacing the brick with the tile due to the thickness difference, but cross that bridge when you come to it.

Is it not a brick chimeney and all? If the face is just brick chisel a block at the time out. But might be better just putting some finish over the brick. Talk to the people at your local home improvement store. It is something better shown in person.

Yes this is possible before you start just knocking the bricks i would drill through the motar in between every other brick or so this will loosen the bricks and make the job far easier.

You have put this in health section - are you worried about how it will affect your back doing all the work? Seriously tho, you may well be better off putting this in diy section - get more answers that way..
