I need to add the sum of one cell in 1000 files. The files are all the same, with the required cell in the same location as well. What I need to do is add the sum of all of these files without actually opening them and pasting a link into another sheet, or copying the data into another sheet. Does anyone know an easy way to retrieve the data? Thanks.

You need to use macros for that.

If you want to make one SUM for one cell in 100 files, or make 1000 SUMs to range of cells in each of these 1000 files, then you can do it in macro
There is an alternative way to the first option, this include using the INDIRECT function to bring out the value of that cell in each of the 1000 files.
