I too had a colicky baby with acid reflux and no one has any idea how hard it can be to look after such a baby unless they have been in that situation. My baby screamed during a feed and from one feed to the next for first 3 months and then just most of the time until he was approaching 5 months. He was on infant gaviscon too, I breast fed and found it a hassle having to give the gaviscon separately rather than mixed with formula and was often tempted to formula feed but stuck it out. It was a nightmare going anywere, I once overheard an elderly lady saying 'goodness that sounds like a baby in anguish', it made me feel such a bad mum, but little did they know I tried everything! We bought cot blocks to raise the end of his cot up which helped a little at night. From 5 months on my boy improved vastly and it was such a relief. I'm due my next baby soon and I am just hoping and praying that this one doesn't suffer the same as my first. I do get quite annoyed when people say oh it'll be different this time round, you'll be more relaxed etc, they just don't get it - my baby was suffering from a horrible medical condition and nothing myself or anyone could do could sooth it, except time itself. Hope your baby gets over the reflux soon, you're probably half way there - I'm sure you will start to see an improvement between 3 and 4 months. In the meantime, try and get as much help from family and friends as possible to give you a break.

It sounds like reflux. Why would you spank an infant? He doesn't know right from wrong!! He is probably having problems with his belly, and it hurts him. Talk to his doctor about it. There are medications that can be given to help reflux.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU SPANK OR SHAKE AN INFANT!!!!! THIS CAN CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE OR DEATH!!!!! Kids that young don't understand what they are doing, all he knows is that his tummy hurts and he wants mommy to fix it.
Try burping him better after he eats, and a few times during his feeding. Also, if he is under 6 months, don't give him anything but breast milk or formula unless your doctor has told you otherwise!! Sorry to sound so harsh, but it sounds like you need some parenting classes to help you. If you don't know what to do, call someone who can help, someone that has kids, or knows how to deal with babies.
I know it's frustrating. I had one that cried non stop for 2-3 hours every night for the first 4 months of her life. If you need to, put him in his bed for a few minutes and leave the room. Try to be calm. They pick up on your emotions, so if you are frustrated, they will be too.
Try having him in a calming environment during the late afternoon and evening hours. Turn down lights, turn the TV either off or the volume down really low, try playing soft, quiet music. Sometimes a vacuum or hairdryer helps sooth them, so turn it on and let it run and see what happens. My daughter wouldn't calm down unless I danced with her. Not fast dancing, but just slow rocking movements. She didn't like to stay in one place, so we would waltz around the room and around the house. She hated the rocking chair, so we had to find other things to make her happy. She liked me to carry her on her tummy, with my arm between her legs and my hand holding her head. I think it puts pressure on the tummy and helps it feel better. Also, after he eats, try putting him on his tummy for a half hour. Make sure you watch him though!!! Put him on a blanket on the floor and sit and play with a toy with him. Not only will it help his tummy, but it will help his neck muscles develop too.
But talk to his doctor. They may have more suggestions for you, and if something could help you, all the better.

Take him to the doctor. It could be that acid reflux or excessive gas is causing him to spit up a lot. As for spanking him or sending him to bed without dinner ...

Why would you spank an infant? He probably is already full when you keep trying to feed him. He just wants a little attention and if he is an infant, crying is the only way he knows how to get it. BE PATIENT!!

if he is spitting up a significant portion of his food he needs
to be checked out by a physician. it may be that he is
allergic to his formula or it may be that there is an underlying
physical problem. either way it needs to be addressed
sooner rather than later.
an infant cries because something is wrong. find out what
it is and correct it.
spanking and withholding food in infancy constitute child
abuse. do not do it.
best of luck to your baby.
