Where i live is a trashy Neighborhood (we would leave, but we were hear years before them with ACRAGE!) And no one has fences except me! and when ever i walk my dobe, a mean dog will come up to us and my dog tears a chuck out of him and the owners and me get into a fight bc their stupid unrestrained white trash dog comes up to ME (i always win), and tries to attack me.and then my RESTARINED dobe with a choke chian, and LEASH, attacks it to protect me, and the dog gets tore up really bad, but its not like i go around to make my dog attack all these dogs bc im not. And im not going to stop walking my dog bc they cant control their dog, but what i wanted to know what could i do to keep them away from us.
any ideas? becuase he is a sweet dobe, and hes only protecting me.when other nonviolent dogs come up to us like little ones, he plays with them, but since the ones close by 2 me are abused neglected, unsocialized& mean, and my hecan tell when theres danger and he bites on command only.

Hi: your problem is not the other dogs it is their ignorant owners and they need to be made responsible for the proper care of their animal. A dog does not need to run loose unless it has a barrier of some kind to keep it safe and others safe if it is a threat. Check with animal control for your particular area. Good luck. In the meantime a squirt bottle full of water and vinegar does wonders in diverting a dogs attention and without causing harm to them.

Does your area have a leash law? If it does, call animal control about the unrestrained dogs.
Warn approaching people with unleashed dogs to restrain their dogs - tell them that your dog is NOT friendly and will bite if their dog gets too close. If the dog is unattended by a person, tell the dog 'no!' in a low, authoritative voice, and step toward it, between your dog and the strange dog. This helps let your dog know that you're in control and will handle the situation, and takes the pressure off of him to fight. If the dog continues to approach, spray it with a dog repellant spray: http://www.halt.com/halt.html
Acting in defense to protect you from an attacking dog is fine - but aggressively chomping any and every dog who approaches you is not. Penalize the stupid owners who don't restrain their dogs by reporting them to animal control - don't punish the poor dogs by letting your dog tear them up.

My friend walks around with a little traffic lead, and if owners aren't smart and don't recall their dogs, then he will clock the other dog over the head with the soft end. If the dog doesn't get it, then he will switch, and use the metal end. I would forewarn the owner, then whack the other dog. Either that or call animal control or your local law enforcement. Most counties have leash laws, and it is unlawful for a dog to be off leash in public areas. I would have the owners cited/fined/whatever. People like this make me angry.

If you really want to get the "white trash dog" out of the neighborhood, call the ACO(animal control officer), Is the Trash dog licensed? You do live in the city right? City's have codes and restrictions, ALL DOGS MUST BE TIED UP and not free to roam. Get some mace and carry it with you. Tell the dog "shuu-and get mad at the dog, when it runs twords you" and if your dog is trained....then when you tell your dog not to bark at the other one then that might stop some of the conflict also. but! Sayin "sig'um" may make the other dog want to "sig" also. if all else fails ge call the Animal Control Officer, I usually tell my dogs shuu and the other dogs too and it NORMALLY works.

If the other dog is not restrained and is off the owner's property, then they are likely violating your community's leash law and possibly a vicious dog law. You can turn them into animal control.
One thing to know though, you can get into some trouble too if your dog is unlicensed and is not up to date on its rabies vaccination. If those things are OK, then you should have no problems.

First of all, are their leash laws in your area? I would reoprt all the dogs that you know their owners for breaking leash laws, abuse and neglect. Try to get as much as you can on video, even on the walks, and then report them to animal control or if the dgos try attacking you, to the police.

definetely call the animal control in your area and talk to them about the abuse and neglect cases pertaining to your neighbors. if you are aware of the fact that these dogs are not cared for, letting your dog attack them knowing the other dog will not be receiving any care for the wounds it gets from your dog isn't the best idea. i can understand that you want to feel safe and keep your dog safe, but there are better options. go to the petstore and get some dog mace, its specially formulated to work against dogs.
idk how much good this would do, but try contacting your neighbors and explain to them your situation and concern for your safety, your dog's safety as well as their own dog's safety.

If you carry a spray bottle full of vinegar while you are on the walk and spray the other dog in the face as soon as it comes in range they will usually run away. This will not harm the dog but they hate the smell of it and it will stings their eyes a little.

You should definitely call animal control or police if the dogs are not on a leash as they have to be pretty much everywhere off their owners property. Good luck :-)

do you have a cell phone? call animal control when this happens and they will come out to where you are. Animals that are aggressive should not be out on their own and I bet there is a law about it in your community.
