Hello all. I would like to work in Canada. I am not sure that I would like to stay forever, but work for a couple of years. What would be the best way of going about it? Would I need to apply for a visa beforehand or go to Canada and look for a job first? I work in IT (if that helps). Any answers gratefully received.

Hi i am planning to emigrate to Canada, you will need a work visa.
The easiest way for you is to look on employment websites for Canada, find a job then contact the employer and see if they will sponsor you.
I have just started the process and am told it could take 4-5 years.
Work visa's are a lot quicker.
Go onto the Canadian embassy website in London it's very good, loads of info..
GOOD LUCK.

The best way to do it it would be to look for a job outside of Canada and then inquiry to the Company to see if they are willing to sponsor a working permit or working visa (which is the same). I don't think any government immigration office appreciate that you move there firts as a tourist ans then try to change your status once you are inside. I did work in Canada for almost 2 years and doing it this way was very easy. Good luck.

I worked in Canada for a year recently and you can get a one year only visa through Bunac (www.bunac.org). You don't have to have any special talents or anything but the Visa is only for 1 year and I think you have to be between the ages of 18-35 to get one.

A year is good enough to see if you like the country, I had a blast, wicked country.
