I'm the mother of 4, but my oldest who is 12, recently taught his little 4 year old brother the middle finger. Now, he won't stop flipping people off. Not only do I punish him, but I also took away my 12 year olds ipod (which he loves) as a punishment for teaching his brother. I think this is a good punishment, but does anyone else have any tips? Because little Christopher won't stop flashing the finger and I'm sick and tired of telling him to stop

I told my boys that the middle finger meant they did not love their Mommy because it made me sad.
Because my boys did not want to see my upset, they got the picture.
My 2 older boys are 6 and 8.
Hope this helped a little.
Good luck Hon.

My daughter did this when she was three. The first time she did it I was so shocked I didn't really know what to do because it caught me off guard. She had NO CLUE what she was doing and really didn't mean to do anything bad. When she did it again, I put on a stern face and told her that it meant something really bad and if someone else besides us (her family) saw it she could get in really big trouble. Sometimes scare tactics work. THe whole time I told her this I used a very strict voice and made her look me directly in the eyes so I know she was paying attention. She did it a couple more times, but she would ask me if it was bad and I would of course be a drama queen and tell her how bad it was because she hurts people if she does that. She pretty much stopped doing it.
As for your 12-year-old, he probably thought it would be funny (typical male thing to do) but you could kind of scare him as well by telling him that if someone saw his little brother do that they would come to your house and demand to know who would teach a young boy something that bad and your older son would have to be held accountable. Like I've stated before, scare tactics.
Good luck!!!

Ignore it - if he thinks you don't care, it's not going ot be so fun for him. Be sure that his 12 year old brother never laughs or encourages it, either. Four year olds are pretty into being cool and impressing other kids, so as long as his brother can pretend likes it's not a big deal, he'll stop and become fascinated by some other vulgar thing you'll hate. Boys!

You did the right thing with the older one. As for "Little Christopher", he needs to be spanked or have his hand slapped, not ignored.
