It's just the way the world is now....I write Thank You cards too and also do other stuff like invations to rsvp.....but of course no body really does that, they just show up and they're usually late as well....

I did feel hurt at first too(because they were late showing up at my first baby's baptism so I was crying because I thought nobody cared enough to even show up and I'd mailed out the invitations a month before hand so they couldn't say I didn't give enough notice and then all of sudden they all started showing up in the middle and some showed up near the end of it), but now I've just given up since I know this is how it is always gonna be...

I write thank you notes and don't have any expectations of what other people do.

I even write letters and send actual cards (no, not kidding) to friends not living in my Province or Canada.

Hopefully, actual writing thank you notes, and hand writing in general will return as a social norm.

Its really pleasant to get a thank you note in the mail.

to be honest I've got to go with you on this.......I make a real effort to write thank you notes, sometimes just for REALLY great service etc but I think it is a sign of the times really, people do not see that the little things matter so much, and the art of base etiquette is dying at a rapid rate IMO.

But that is the same as the art of letter writing.......I know i LOVE getting mail other than bills, so I try to drop out a few letters each week...............

I'm with you. It's a lost bit of etiquette. I get really peeved when I go to a bridal shower, baby shower or wedding and bring a nice gift and don't get any acknowledgment. Probably it ticks me off because I usually don't know the person that well to begin with and just got an invitation because they sent one to everyone they even remotely know just to get a bunch of gifts...those people definitely should be more thankful and show it with a card!!

I get thank you cards all of the time, I also send them. Review the people that you associate with, there might be some clues as to why they do not send cards.

same here. Everyone likes to know what they did or gift they sent was appreciated.....at least 39 cents worth!

At least we know we are doing the right thing. I guess we have to be satisfied with that.

I raised both my girls to acknowledge gifts and deeds with a note. By the time they were in their teens they took it upon themselves to get them out. They too are angry when thye give gifts and get no response.

I'll have to add that my younger daughter got married last summer. Her husband never wrote thank you notes. Well, he does now!.......lol.
