Dogs have "stinky" breath because they don't brush their teeth like humans do. If you want to get rid of the problem, brush your dogs teeth monthly or give him a "Greenie Bone" you can buy at alocal pet store such as Pets Mart.
And they have the cleanest mouths because no body fluids transfer from dog to human. Besides, if you let them lick a wound, it heals faster.

What the dog has had in his mouth chewing or eating creates the smell I think. The typical k9 will chew on or lick anything he finds on the floor. Not to mention they practice no oral hygiene other than the biscuits we may provide for them. Lastly dogs are famous for licking themselves ..you know where... haha

Smelly breath is an indication of excessive tartar buildup. It may also be a rotting tooth that needs extraction. Your vet should do a dental cleaning.

Well does your dog chew bones? If yes thats why, and all you need to do is get a spare toothbrush and brush his/her teeth every night! I did that to my dog and he dosen't smell anymore!
Or they also sell doggie mints called yip yaps! (oh yeah don't use toothpaste) *smiley face*
