For the most part - yes, it's true. The only thing I question is that someone told you that we believe that God had sex with Mary. As has already been mentioned, this comes from a book called Mormon Doctrine. While it is a good book, it does contain a lot of the authors opinions and ironically is not considered Mormon doctrine.
My adivice is to talk to your Mormon friend about your questions, he can at least put you in touch with someone who can answer them, if he can't.

God is composed entirely of the energy we call Love. Desiring to fully experience every aspect of His/Her Divinity, God modified the vibrational rates of His/Her energy to form matter, and divided Her/His consciousness into an infinite number of individuations we call souls. All souls were created at the same time, none have or will die, and all are on a path of spiritual evolution back to the Creator.
We were given the gifts of free will and a veil of forgetting that we might perceive ourselves as individuals. In reality we are all equal parts of the Creator and all of creation is connected to the underlying field of energy from which we are manifest - God.
This is the universal truth. Everything else is craziness from the mind of man.

We believe Mary was a virgin (it says so in The Book of Mormon). Anything that says otherwise comes from a book titled "Mormon doctrine" which does not have the endorsement of the church because it contains so much of the author's opinions which are far outside official church doctrine.
You have an LDS friend to be able to discuss these things with, by all means, go to him with these questions.

It all sounds very crazy, but the Mormons believe it.
I once heard somebody say that the best way to get people to believe a lie is to tell it over and over again and mix a little bit of the truth in with it.
It works like rat poison. Rat poison is good food mixed with bad food. The rat is tricked into eating it and dies. All the false religions work this way. And they all lead to death.

Crazy is all in the eye of the beholder. Many people thought the early explorers were crazy when they said the world was round. History has proven who was really crazy. When we die we will see who is really crazy I guess.

Crazy or not, is just a matter of opinion really.
You judge us by what you think is normal, yet according to me,
our belief is more logical than any religion I know.
To accept God in a "family" way is not out of our mind.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
(New Testament | John 20:17)
The above verse clearly stated our relationship with God the Father, and with Jesus Christ our brother.

Those are their true beliefs, but he is probably thinking the same thoughts about your beliefs, like that which says when you take communion it turns into blood and flesh of Jesus and you are ACTUALLY eating him. And the thing of how you believe that God would actually condemn a week old baby who died to hell just because they werent baptized, he probably also thinks that is too crazy to be true.

Well, if I were you, I would get your friend to explain in more detail what he has told you. For example, you can read right out of the Book of Mormon, in 1 Nephi Chapter 11, the following regarding Jesus Christ' mother, Mary, and see for yourself that it actually parallels what happened in the Bible, in a vision that Nephi had hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus Christ. You will note that Mary is referred to as a virgin both before AND after - so however God achieved this miracle, in my opinion, the scriptures indicate Mary was still a virgin afterwards because Nephi refers to her in the same terminology:
"13 And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the great city of Jerusalem, and also other cities. And I beheld the city of Nazareth; and in the city of Nazareth I beheld a virgin, and she was exceedingly fair and white.
14 And it came to pass that I saw the aheavens open; and an angel came down and stood before me; and he said unto me: Nephi, what beholdest thou?
15 And I said unto him: A virgin, most beautiful and fair above all other virgins.
16 And he said unto me: Knowest thou the acondescension of God?
17 And I said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things.
18 And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.
19 And it came to pass that I beheld that she was carried away in the Spirit; and after she had been carried away in the Spirit for the space of a time the angel spake unto me, saying: Look!
20 And I looked and beheld the virgin again, bearing a child in her arms.
I would also like to point out that to the best of my knowledge no one gets to be in charge of a whole planet when they die, because 1) We haven't even had the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ yet, and 2) We haven't even had the full Resurrection of those who have lived on this earth. The Millennium lasts 1,000 years. I would like to point out that just as little children like to help their parents, it is not impossible to think of how we may have had small assignments helping Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father before this mortal life with the creation of our own world, as it was created for our benefit. After the resurrection, we will all have physically perfect, immortal bodies, and those who have chosen to be married for eternity will indeed be able to have children, just the same pattern as you see around you already here on earth.

Yep, and it gets stranger still.
You may want to apply your research tools to how the Protestants got started and see if some of your questions about Catholics are answered.
