Highlight both columns and select auto filter - this should solve the problem.
if this is not the case then re make the filter.
It may also be a case that you do not have enough data in the columns.

I don't know what you mean by "line up as well" but if Column A is staying put while you sort column B, then all you have to do is highlight all the cells (in both columns) you want sorted and then sort them by Column b ascending.

It sounds to me like you don't really need a filter, you are actually SORTING. Select your whole sheet, then select "Data" , "Sort" in the menus. If you have column headings, you can choose which one to sort by, otherwise, choose the column by name (ie: column A, Column B etc)

if you mark column B and sort it, it will only sort column B. Do NOT mark the column, goto the menu data -> sort and chose column B there. Then it should align the columns and sort by column B

good luck

might be spaces in column A screwing it up

you have to do a dual sort. it is in the same sort operation but you have to fill in the "and then by" so, fill out the first sort field as "b"-And then by --"a" that will keep the customer records sorted for each manager.
