I'm 19. in college. and i don't know how to ride a bike. i had one with training wheels when I was younger. but i never really was taught how to ride a bike. i tried when i was in middle school, and was able to ride my little brother's bike up and down our street but i crashed and mangled my arm. it looks fun, and easy, i want to do it, how do i do it?

That sounds like an unfortunate introduction to cycling...

Take a bike with wide tires, and find a grassy slope that isn't too steep. Make sure that your feet can touch the ground (flat on the ground). Coast down the hill with your feet dragging just enough so you learn balance, but not making it too dangerous. Each time you get more confident, use your legs less and less as stabilizers. Eventually you'll get the hang of steering and compensating with leaning etc.
After a while you might even dare to put your feet on the pedals while you coast down. Later you might pedal down the hill. Eventually you'll pedal down the hill and off into the sunset.

i didn't learn to ride until i was 19 also. and had training wheels when i was younger too. Honestly, best way, or at least the one that worked for me: find a bike, go out to a park or street or somewhere where there aren't people or cars or stuff (if you're like me you don't want to anyone to see you fall or start learning). Get on the bike and pedal. It might take a few times before you can get it smooth but it will happen. Remember, straddle the bike, place one foot on a pedal, push forward and at the same time raise your body into the seat and other foot into other pedal and try and level yourself out. The starting it the hardest part. Once your moving, your momentum will keep you up.

first of all...its great that you still want to learn how to ride!

when i was younger, i learned by having my parents hold on the bike and show me how to balance. you could have a family member or friend help you to do this.

after you feel that you know how to balance (which may be the hardest part), try to pedal (while still having someone hold on and follow you). if you do this for a while, eventually you will be able to ride by yourself.

learning to ride a bike takes a lot of practice, but it is worth all of the work.

a good place to try and learn is in an empty parking lot. you have lots of smooth space and dont have to worry about falling into the street etc...

also, wear your helmet. if you fall, your head will not be injured.

hope this helps! good luck!!!

get a cool BMX bike , wear your helmet, protective knee pads and elbow pads....go to the nearest skatepark walking. Then if you see a kid riding a bike just take the time to OBSERVE how he balances, glides and brakes----the whole enchilada. Then with some guts and imagination----GO FOR IT! ( make sure the hot chick notices you when you accidentaly spill---then ask her when you're on the ground if you're in HEAVEN)----then ask her number and tell her you've seen Matt Hoffman or Dave Mirra on ESPN2 do it in a heartbeat.....Then,dude, you have just learned the true meaning of CYCLING!

Sit on one and move yourself with your feet. Get the feeling of flow and movement and as you get comfortable start using the pedals to propel you. Pick an empty parking lot like a business one during weekends.

Start with a little bike, after you can ride well, try with a bigger one.
