I know this is pathetic, but I am 23 and avoid driving at all cost. I probably wouldn't care so much, but I have children now, and would like to drive them to their friends houses and such when they get older (or to the ER if I have to). I think my fear started when my mother started trying to teach me (big mistake) she freaked out because a car got behind me (we were going about ten miles an hour in a residintial neighboorhood). Then she made fun of me and talked about how bad I was to everybody. Then my friend "taught" me how to drive by leaving me with her car keys and having me follow her to another friends house (it was dark and I was freaking out). Then my sister tried. That was worse then my mother. She made me go about 20 OVER the speedlimit. She thought that I should be learning how to pass cars. Every one that has tried has been very retarded on the subject (I think). So, now my heart starts racing and I have panic attacks at the thought of driving. PLEASE HELP!

Learning to drive is a scary thing for some people, do don't worry, you're not the only one.

The best thing to do is to go to a professional driving school. My mom was the same way. She would freak out whenever I was behind the wheel, and she made me so nervous. Then we both decided to go to a school, and the driver's teachers are trained to be calm because they know that you'll learn better when you're semi-relaxed. They've seen it all, so you shouldn't feel uncomfortable with them.

Do some local research. Find out which driving schools have the best reputations, and go to their offices. Ask them if they're willing to be patient with you. Explain your situation. If it's a good school, they'll answer your questions and put you at ease. If not, then move on to another.

Good luck, you'll be drivin' in no time.

sounds since you don't have any intelligent friends you should enroll in a driver training class. Those people are more professional and you will save money on your insurance premiums. If you don't like the instructor, ask for another or cancel the class and get another. Be sure and don't pay up front or sign a contract unless they guarantee satisfaction. Some of the cars have dual controls.

Sounds like you need to go to a proffecional driving school. They are not that expencive. Also you should seek a therapist to help you to get over this fear. It sounds like you were really tramotized and can use some profeccional help.

I am assuming you got a drivers license, right? So why are you freaked out about driving? Surely, you aren't still upset about something your mother did YEARS ago. Or your friend....or your sister?

I bet you "freak out" about a lot of things, right?

So you need therapy if you can't get over this. How did you get a drivers license anyway?
