Is it common for people to take maternity leave from their workplace and then, when their leave is over, quit :) ?

It's totally up to you. I know that when I had my children, I couldn't go back to work. It just didn't feel right. So one time, while I intended to go back to work - I didn't. I felt bad for about a day and then it was the most liberating thing I could have done. My place was with my children - but that decision is up to each individual.

Some people do, my sister did that 9 years ago. But some people just take a leave of absence for a year or two, that way you can go back if you want to. I know one person who was on maternity leave for 5 years and came back to the job when she was ready.

sometimes that is expected of people. i know when one of my co-workers went on leave, we all bet on if she would or would not come back (she did) - so i don't think it's a GREAT thing to do, but you may find that even if you PLAN to go back that you end up not wanted to. life happens!

I think alot of women (me included) INTENDED to return to work, but when the time comes, they can't bear to be away from the baby...you can't know how you're going to feel about it til after the baby comes...
