There will be a short campaign no doubt just to get the message across.
Its a good law though, but I would like to see mobile phones with a speaker that you can actually hear from a hands free unit, or with bluetooth facility for 2 devices... I have to choose between linking to my satnav for traffic updates, or my headset.

i think its a good law in theory because i have seen some people who just absolutely cannot drive while talking on their phones, such as driving completely off the road and drifting into oncoming traffic or other lanes. but then there are a ton of other people who drive perfectly fine while talking on their phones.
there's the argument "oh you only have one hand!" what about people who drive manuals? pretty sure they've been driving one handed to shift and such and done just fine.
and i don't see how talking on a phone is too much different from talking to other people in the car. i think having a baby in the car would be more distracting than chatting to someone on the phone. why don't we just outlaw carrying babies because they distract drivers when they cry, drop their toys, etc.

Seen on the local news that at the time of reporting (early morning rush hour) they have stopped 3 people. Given them the dreaded 3 points

I hope so. I had to brake hard this morning to avoid some stupid cow who was wandering all over the road whilst chatting to someone on her hand-held mobile phone.
Sixty quid and three points are not enough. Six hundred quid and a three year ban might be more appropriate.

Our police are so over worked and tied up with red tape that they will be hard pressed to spot anyone on a mobile whilst driving.

You need police in cars not speed cameras to catch offenders which is why the law has been an *** so far.
