Hello Peter,
Your birth was actually registered in the Jan/Feb /Mar quarter of 1965. We have always had a six week period to register a birth. Your mums maiden name was Walton, and your birth is registered in Barton. The volume number is 10b and the page number is 508. This information came from www.ancestry.co.uk and their bmd indexes are free to search, but you would have to subscribe to down load stuff. If you want any help just email me, my email address is mamsgel1956@yahoo.co.uk . It is really interesting once you get started, anyway good luck. Diane.

There is a TON of genealogy help, books, websites and libraries.

Start by taking a family history of every relative you know

search on familysearch.org

also try ancestors.com or genealogy.com. They charge you, but the boards are free.

try cyndislist.org for links to literally thousands of websites.

Check with your local libaries, state captial libraries or LDS libraries.

i's tough, genes reunited is only good if you know the names of the people you are trying to track.
if you are totally in the dark of their names it becomes very hard, you need to use you living relatives to find out as many names as you can, then you can use sites like genes reunited to find out when they got married and died for a small fee.
if you want to find out names and track your family history, you will need to speak to a professional and pay. they is no free way that i know of to track unknown relatives.
