My friend is being treated badly at work because she is smart, responsible and well liked by others. Her supervisor judges her heavily on appearances. She does not have tatoos, mohawks and or orange hair. He wants to say she's got bad habits when he is the one who doesn't show up for appointments, etc.

My friend should file a compliant for sexual harrassment.

OK. EVERYONE feels like they do a great job at work.

I have yet to hear someone say "I suck at my job."

Just because one is popular does not mean that they are good at their job.

She should document everything from now on. She can take her concerns to her human resource department.
If that doesn't help then she can contact his supervisor.
The next time he speaks about bad habits she should ask
what she is doing that isn't being well received so she can
change. By showing eagerness to improve will only make
him look worse. As long as she stays well within company
guidelines and follows company policies she can't be
fired so long as she is past the any probationary period.

You say her supervisor says she has bad habits? Does she shower daily? brush her teeth? Smell? Wear clean clothes to school? It is yes, than yes, she needs to complain. But it doesnt sound like sexual harrassment to me, atleast you didnt say anything sexually inappropriate was done to her. If he is just a supervisor, than he also has one. She can go above him, if there is a HR dept. she can lodge a complain with them. Complain to the higher ups but it needs to be done in a professional manor. She doesnt want to come across as immature or jealous. Also, its law that there are poster hanging visible to all employers about the their rights while at work. There will also be phone numbers that she can call, they will tell her if its sexual or another kind of harrassment.

Yes she should file a complaint! She needs to start documenting everything he says/does that makes her feel that way.

Harassment O.K. - sexual Harassment NO.

As above document every time with a little note giving date time place-site, witnesses (if any) and all other relevant details.

Sexual harrassment? Maybe not.

Harrassment in general, or just a jerk?

Good luck with that. Tell her to document EVERYTHING-dates, what was said, time, when, where, etc. It will help her cause. Witnesses would be good too. They fight it, becareful. Good luck!
