No, that's a fair price for a bridesmaid dress. Plus, it's pretty much a known fact when it comes to bridesmaids....you're going to pay alot of money for a dress you'll wear once.

I'd say yes...for some people that is a lot of money for something that might or might not be worn again.

I'm assuming that ALL the bridesmaids dresses will be the same color, fabric and design.
And what woman wants to see copies of the same dress she's wearing at some party?

Hopefully, the bride will have good taste in the choice of design, etc., and consult with the bridesmaids...that is the right and proper thing to do.

Besides, the bridesmaids are also responsible for accessories (shoes, etc) and some might even have to travel to the wedding AND they will have to pay for wedding gifts.

Give them a break.

I can tell just by the way you typed out $170.00, that you think it's too much. Add the .00 and it looks bigger I guess eh, hehe. In all fairness, it just depends on the person. It could be cheap for one girl, and expensive for another. The bridesmaids dresses that I picked out along with the help of my bridesmaids were $200. I went with them to the dress shop where I bought my wedding gown, and they were free to try anything on, and we just all finally agreed on the $200 dress. I didn't want it to be too expensive, I was looking for something a little cheaper for them. But they were completely fine with the price. Like I said at the begining, it's just to get something that everyones happy with. :)

I would personally try to keep the dresses as close to $125 as possible to make things as easy as possible for the bridesmaids. My bridesmaids dresses were $40. The less stressed your bridesmaids are, the less stress they will cause for you on your big day.

Thats about average for bridesmaid dresses. Two of the dresses i picked out for my bridesmaids were $150 and the third is $225 so no its not to much.

Yes, because by the time you buy shoes, jewelry, and pay for your hair and makeup, it'll be a lot more than $170!! If you are the bride, and have your heart set on the dress, then offer to pay for some of the dress, or pay for the accessories, something to offset the cost. Good luck!

That's about normal. My bridesmaid's dresses ran about 120-140 but that was because I had them choose separates so it gave them the opportunity to decide how much they wanted to spend.

My wedding dress is also a 'bridesmaids' dress and it cost me 160.

Depends upon your bridesmaids....you can have a set price for what they can afford if your the bride.....but there are some ways to save on a dress....if the bride gets their dress from David's Bridal then you can save on the dress.....even if you say they got there dress there they can still save.....$170 isn't that bad from what i heard most dresses costing.....because your bridesmaids gifts could be the jewelry to match your dress......those gifts aren't cheap.....but really it's all on what the person can afford.

Depends on the financial situation of your bridesmaids. If they are all "poor college students" then it might be on the costly side.

Without knowing any details, I would say that $170 is just fine, but please don't go over $200. There is still so much to purchase - undergarments, jewelry, hosery, shoes, etc.

Best advice I can give is to ask them frankly what they can afford and work from there.

The people who are saying no just need to go to the store. That is expensive depending on the detail on the dress. Avg. is about 130 or so. You can go to places like Deb (debshops.com) and get one for like 50 or you could go to a place like davids bridal and get one b/w 99 and 150ish.
