Aren't they meant to be seperate already? If not, I hope so.
Actually, there's still a connection between church and state here in the UK. The prime minister appoints the Archbishop and so on. But we're fine with it. We don't misuse our lack of seperation, and nobody can really be bothered to do anything about it.

The Democrats are too afraid of organized religion to get it done. On the other hand that is actually handled by the courts. What they can do is nominate and appoint judges that are not neo- cons. This would help to assure a separation of Church and state. People should be free to practice the religion of their choice as long as they are not hurting others; Such as children.
They should not be allowed to try and cram it down everyone's throat. It has no business in law or in the practice of governing.
Religion has it's own set of ethics and many times one religions ethics violate another set of ethics. If Christianity and Islam were similar the Christians would all agree they were infidels and should be executed. Obviously this type of thinking has no place in government nor should it be allowed to be acted upon by law. Many Evangelical religious Christians and Amish as well believe in beating children. Catholics also adhere to this. But this type of behavior needs to be legalized as child abuse.
So Religion often has no place in government.

Republicans like your friend George W. try to fill your ears with what you want to hear, knowing that the majority in the U.S. have the same beliefs he does, so he leans on a supportive side, for a war cause, he's not as dumb as everyone thinks, he talks pretty and charms you, than he throws the bombs.
What a coincidence that most republican presidents are pro-War, it's because republicans are just a bunch of Gun-crazy rednecks waiting for an excuse to pull the trigger. Democrats on the other hand are pro-Peace so they'll try to leave religion out of politics as much as they can, after all, aren't all wars caused by religious differences?
