All wood can be re-used for a wide variety of uses depending on your needs. All the carpenters that I knew had stacks of off-cuts, parts from cuboards, chairs etc that they could use to finish off a project, a habit I've picked up.
Chippings from timber yards and mills can be made into hard board, chipboard, MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) or plywood.
The process requires heavy press machines and the chippings soaked in water and placed in a mould. This is why hard board, chipboard etc are not waterproof without treatment.
In particular MDF, Formaldehyde is used in the process with obvious health concerns.
Another way to reuse wood at home is to collect saw dust which can be used to soak up spills or mixed with glue to make a filler or surface texture. It will also go into a compost heap.

it could definately be reused for all sorts of things if you use your imagination or know of anyone who might need some scrap wood.
some recycling centres do also take it to chip it and then make it into chip board. contact the council to find out what they do with it or know anyone organisations who might be able to make use of it
