Catholics in the United States are obliged to abstain from the eating of meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during the season of Lent. Eating fish and other sea food are allowed.

They are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday.

Self-imposed observance of fasting on all weekdays of Lent is strongly recommended. This is where people also give up chocolate, sarcasm, or something else for Lent.

With love in Christ.

Huh? We abstain form eating meat (creatures with flesh) only as a discipline and only on the Fridays of Lent, and Ash Wednesday. But, to answer your question (I guess) yes, fish is sea food considered fish.

Do you mean "Roman Catholics"??

All seafood is considered O.K. to eat on Fridays.

The Eastern Orthodox (also very Catholic, but not of the "Roman" variety) have a slightly different take on the Lenten abstinence from meat.

The reason fish is given a "pass" during Lent is because of it's strong Biblical symbolic connection to Jesus.
