I was just wondering what everyone thought about global warming in relation to the problems we have today. I know that global warming is real, etc. but I was curious as to how it is viewed in relation to say... dying kids in Africa. (10 million children under the age of 5 die in Africa each year right now) so how many kids under 5 will die in global warming? All of them? Do you think that some fanatic global warming activists have lost perspective on current issues? I realize that something needs to be done about global warming but isn't it hypocritical of them (who are sooo worried about humanity's future) to turn a blind eye to what is happening right now and focus on a possible scenario that may happen sometime in the future? I don't really have an opinion on this issue it was just raised and I was wondering what you thought. Please don't be mean.

No need to be mean, yours is thoughtful question.

Global warming is a very slow moving disaster. It doesn't look that bad now, but it is a terrible threat in the future.

There are many poor countries now struggling to feed themselves. Take Bangladesh. Much of its' agricultural land is only a little above the present sea level. If global warming hits hard, salt water intrusion, and changes to precipitation and temperature patterns will destroy their agriculture. And, yes, millions will die of starvation. Rich countries will be spending hundreds of billions to cope themselves, and economic times will be hard. They won't have the ability or the desire to help.

A big problem is that, if we are to avoid the worst effects we need to start now. If we wait until people are dying, it will be too late.

The timescale makes putting this in perspective to present day problems difficult. But it's not overhyped.

How about none of them will die from "global warming". It is the biggest scam ever designed to turn the US into the third world. As far as Africa goes the reason for that statistic is corruption. These countries receive plenty of aid from the west and squander it on their own corrupt regimes. The people see none of that money.
