We rescued our cat, Cotton, from a cold and heatless enviroment. This March, it'll be a year since he has arrived. I want to get him some stuff and I want some help. I'm getting him toys, treats, food....and? I don't know what else to get him. I HAVE TO GET HIM SOMETHING ELSE! So...for you cat lovers, what should I get my cat and you MUST know if he will enjoy it.

What I do for my cats birthday is to help the shelter out is every year around the time I adopted my cats. I throw them a "birthday party" where I invite all of my friends over to my apartment. I cook them a spaghetti dinner, and in exchange they all have to bring donations for the animal shelter. I've found that this is a really fun way to help out the shelter.

This year I am also thinking about adding a raffle. The shelter has a list of items they need donated. I am providing this list for all of the guests and for every item they bring off of the list, they get a raffle ticket. The prize is a T-shirt from the shelter (that way the shelter also gets the $10 for the purchase of the shirt) and a plate of homebaked cookies.

Toys: A cat tree, a log from outside with the bark still on, a live catnip plant, or some cat grass would be nice - those are all universal hits with my cats. My cats also love 'da bird'. If you don't have one already, give it a try. They are all over 11 years old, yet they act like kittens when I get it out to play with them.

My cats also love Rosie Rat: http://catniptoys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=275-7&Store_Code=PBTTAT
They get a hilarious wild & crazy look on their faces as they bat her around.

If Cotton likes catnip, you could try a catnip-stuffed stick toy (my cats are crazy for yeowww cigars):

If he doesn't go for catnip, you could try honeysuckle toys.

And of course empty boxes are a big hit. You could get some cardboard boxes and cut play holes in them for Cotton to explore & pounce in & out of.

Food & treats: my cats eat Wellness canned food and LOVE it. They're limited in the treats I can give them because one of them has a very sensitive tummy. So I use a bit of cooked chicken breast, or a piece of sardine or salmon for treats.

Congratulations on his 1st anniversary in a loving home!

My cat (Dixie) has this little mouse and on the bottom of it....it opens up (with velcro) and you can put cat nip in it. Every once or two weeks I replace the cat nip with fresh. She LOOOOVVVEEESSS it! I see that silly little mouse flying all over the house. The good thing about this toy is that the nip is actually in the toy so there isn't cat nip all over the place! I would highly suggest it for the cat and for your entertainment!!! :o)

My cat's are addicted to cosmic cat nip. It has such as pleasant aroma even I find it appealing.
I cannot afford it just now we live on a tight budget but I'd like to get my girls a lovely cat hammock you bolt it to the wall so the lip of it is flush to your windowsill. then they can lie in it and watch the world go by, to them it's like premium cable. It's also orthopedic. I am hoping to get at least 1 of them for my girls for my birthday.
Happy birthday to cotton. I hope you find just the right gift and that you have years of loving bliss together.

Get your cat what is called a " Cat Tree". It is a a series of ledges, little hiding spots, and toys dangling from stings all around it. They are easily assembled, and span from your floor to ceiling. They are adjustable as well so unless you got a really really high up ceiling, or an angled ceiling, it will work fine. I have one for my cats and they love it, especially crimson, she sleeps in her hiding spot at least once a day

I would have to agree with vixen. A laser pointer is one of my cats' fave toys. Plus I get all the fun of seeing them trying to catch the light. Plus, i went to the toy store and there's this furry ball with a tail that goes around in circles, I got iti for my son, but the cats have claimed it. They like to wait and pounce when it's in the middle of the floor. Have fun with your kitty!!!

A pet drinking fountain!!! I got one for my cats this X'mas and they absoutey love it. The youngerone is fascinated by the "water fall" and I am assured that both cats are drinking fresh, clean, well-oxygenated water everyday! Costs around $30.00 at the pet store but cheaper on line.

A blanket with silky trim, a new Scratching post, the realy big ones that take up half your room. Catnip bubbles are always a treat! My girls get them every year for their birthday. I also give them kitty massages!
