Why not do something good for the world, like the EPA?
Thank you for being a Marine, you have done more then your share of putting yourself in harms way, my brother was in the army. Take that drive and clean up the pollution so kids don't get sick. My sister is going to die young because of an industrial pollutant that damaged her lungs at a young age, and there is no attention to that because the population is so small. Do what you did in the Marines, protect those who need protection.

One, you just don't get into a PD and land in a tactical unit. FBI and Marshall pay is lousy and the hours long. Two...most cops don't want all the excitement and action. Marines and soldiers are scrutinized daily over their actions in the combat zone. Multiply this times 10 and that's what you'll have in a PD.
Don't entertain this filed as a career if you expect it to be action, shoot-em-ups and then go home like on TV and never give it another thought. most PDs will turn you away with a psycho attitude like that.
No one needs or wants the "action" that SWAT can bring. That usually is a shoot or don't shoot situation. No cop I ever knew wanted to shoot someone or jumped for joy when and if they did.
You want action? Stay in the Corps and sign up for another tour of Iraq or Afghanistan. Stick around long enough and you'll have new territory to play in Iran.

Best answer is US Marshals , and the southwest is the hot spot now for homeland security.
Never made national news but 4 US Marshals faced down 8-10 Mexican national troops in full combat gear on the US Side of the border in southern NM about 2-3 weeks back.

Any of the departments you mentioned will probably be plenty happy to have someone with your education and experience. If you are looking for action, FBI is probably not the place to go. US Marshals have fugitive apprehension units that would probably be what you are looking for. SWAT is also a good choice. However, I think the place you are likely to see the most consistent action is working patrol in any high crime urban jurisdiction, such as South Bronx for NYPD, or south central LA for LAPD or CHP.
I worked in Oakland for the CHP and got a nice mix of 100mph+ car chases, foot chases through west and east Oakland and Richmond, jumping fences, etc, and just knock-down brawls with people who didn't want to go to jail. Make sure you sign up for the graveyard shift on Fridays and Saturdays.
Hopefully you will get your desire for action out of your system before you get yourself injured. It sounds like you are better prepared for that kind of life than I was. Good luck to you.

After my military service (and retirement) I decided that working at a federal level was not where my own interests lay.
I opted to work for a county law enforcement agency and have enjoyed the work.
Being former military with a CJ degree, you have many options available to you provided you still meet the maximum age limitations.
Many of my own friends moved on to the US Marshalls and one or two with DEA.
Consider what part of law enforcement MOST interests you and decide from there!
Best wishes...Semper Fi.

S.W.A.T is dangerous, police is more mild, F.B.I is more for really high level crimes, so its probably wayyy mroe dangerous.
so it depends on what you liek to do.
if u wanna chase people down, then join the police force, if u wanna "storm the castle" join S.W.A.T. if u wanna do high level stuff join FBI probly

as you separate from the Mil. you will be given a HUGE amount of resources to pick from.......are you coming out as an officer or enlisted?
You also might want to start brushing up your resume and getting that into tip top condition...........
IMO if you are enlisted and have the degree then it REALLY shows that you have outward drive to better your self and that should shine out in your resume.
Have you tried the TSA link as well...........

General patrol cop is the best job out there (mind you, I'm a little biased). Once you are in that job for a bit you can apply to be on the SWAT team.
