AVG, Avast,Antivir are 3 good free programs.
Some people prefer to install more than one anti-virus product, and perform regular system scans with with each, for maximum protection. When installing multiple anti-virus products, though, take care to ensure only one of them is configured for resident protection. If you enable the resident protection part of more than one anti-virus product simultaneously, it can lead to system instability & clashes between them.
I use AVG for anti-virus
Updating very important(daily) Out-of-date products are useless.By the way,use anti-spyware as well.In their case,more than one is recommended.I use AVG anti-spyware,Spybot-search & destroy,Ad aware se personal.All are free.

If you have been on line without an anti virus program you are most likely already infected. Download one of the suggested programs right now and run a scan

That is not a question! However, any antivirus, with Windows, will only be 99% effective, meaning that about 1000 or so of the 114,000 virii that infect Windows will be knocking at your door with any Windows operating system. Better to get kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org
If you insist on Windows, then go to www.majorgeeks.com and get AVG
